Pluto entered Aquarius on 23rd March 2023 and stays briefly until 11th June, returning to the sign on 21st January 2024 where he stays until 1st September and then returns to Aquarius more or less for good on 19th November 2024. The transit will last until January 2044 with a dip into Pisces in 2043. This will be a period of transformation and revolution in society and in this post, we’ll explore how that might work in each house of the birth chart.

Pluto represents the principle of transformation and is associated with the primordial instincts, collective shadow, and the process of regeneration through the destruction of outmoded forms. By transit Pluto intensifies experience and brings shadow material to the surface so it can be reintegrated. This often involves a death and rebirth whereby old fears and traumas can be purged, purified and released, and new gifts and talents can be discovered. (More Pluto Keywords)

In Aquarius, Pluto brings your attention to how you relate to society, politics and technology, and whether you’re being true to your authentic self. Aquarius is where you can express your individuality and find like-minded friends and groups to share ideas and work for social reform and find a way to contribute to society while remaining true to yourself. Pluto will stir up intense feelings in these areas, as well as issues with control, power, and obsessions, and may push things to extremes. The shadow side of Aquarius will be triggered, including a tendency for emotional detachment and coldness, fanaticism, irrational ideologies and groupthink, and the fear and hatred of the body and its feelings. But if you can work with and reintegrate this shadow material, you can become more whole and therefore more authentic as an individual.

The shadow of Aquarius may be most likely to manifest in groups or between friends, but you may also experience it via society through politics, social media and the internet, as well as science and technology. The more awareness you bring to these experiences, the less emotionally reactive you’ll be and you may be able to help others to navigate the next 20 years without losing your humanity.

The transit may begin with some kind of challenge or call to adventure which forces you to change in response. This challenge and need for change can come from outside you or from within, or even a mixture of both. Either way, by the end of the transit, if you respond to the challenge and allow yourself to transform, you’ll become stronger and more resilient and whole in that area.

This will play out in the house occupied by Aquarius in your chart and how you deal with it depends on how you relate to your natal Pluto and whether you’re tuned into his deep wavelength. You may also want to look at the planets that rule Aquarius in your chart. Your natal Saturn and Uranus placements and the aspects they form will either help or hinder Pluto on his journey. This is especially so if they aspect any planets that Pluto will transit while he’s in Aquarius.

Pluto will form conjunctions to any natal planets that you have in Aquarius, and will oppose planets in Leo, and square planets in Taurus and Scorpio. He will sextile planets in Aries and Sagittarius, and trine planets in Gemini and Libra.

Aquarius – 1st House

With Aquarius on the Ascendent or in the first house your body, appearance, health and self and overall approach to life is Aquarian. You have an objective, intellectual and rational perspective on life and are interested in humanitarian ideas of equality and fairness that will improve society. You’re aware of group dynamics and social networks but need to walk your own path, preferring to stay aloof and detached. You may feel like an outsider or different from others and come across as weird, rebellious or eccentric.

This tendency to remain distant and emotionally cool may lead to others seeing you as arrogant or stuck-up. You may be too idealistic and stubborn in your ideas which could alienate others further. Depending on the rest of your chart, you may be uncomfortable with messy emotions and have a tendency for selfishness and playing power games which lurks in your shadow.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your view of yourself and how you approach life and may intensify shadow issues of power and control in this area. Health or relationship problems could reveal a need for change, and your sense of self could fall apart if you haven’t been true to yourself or have limited self-awareness. But now is the time to find out who you really are and be more authentic and empowered as an individual.

This may involve a confrontation with your shadow as you become more aware of hidden motivations and compulsions that make you behave like a spoilt brat or ego maniac. Be careful not to be too controlling of others or yourself and focus on self-improvement rather than trying to force others to adapt to your demands. In this way you can develop greater self-control and mastery over how you come across and be reborn as a whole person.

Aquarius – 2nd House

With Aquarius in the second house your values, self-worth, and relationship to money, possessions and resources are Aquarian. You value humanitarian ideals of equality and fairness and may earn money from an unconventional source or through science and technology, radical politics and social reform, or working with groups or the community. The natal positions of Saturn and Uranus may reveal more.

You may be detached from traditional views of money and security, preferring to find your own unique approach. You may feel that too much money and possessions limit your freedom to be yourself, or see money as the key to having the freedom you need to do what you want. Either way, you could be stubborn and find it hard to change your approach if necessary.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your approach to money and resources and may intensify shadow issues of control in this area. You may begin to question what you value and the way you earn money and your level of income could change radically during the transit. Don’t panic if it begins with a breakdown of your finances or large losses – this will change as the transit unfolds if you work with the process of regeneration.

Your feelings of inner security could be challenged and you may need to rethink how you have structured your life and what really matters. You may learn new skills to earn money in a different way, or find a way to draw on your originality and inventiveness to increase cash flow. You may also decide to refocus your attention inwards to find inner security regardless of your outer circumstances. You can empower yourself by examining any issues you have with self-worth and develop greater self-acceptance.

Aquarius – 3rd House

With Aquarius in the third house your thinking and communication are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards siblings, neighbours, short distance travel and transport, writing, media and the internet. Your thinking tends to be unconventional but also rational and you may be interested in science and technology, as well as unusual ideas. Your detached view means you can come at things from alternative perspectives and communicate in a unique way.

You may be good at solving problems but may also be intellectually stubborn and prone to fixed ideas. You could be too abstract or eccentric in your thinking and prone to restlessness and getting stuck in your head. You may be the local weirdo, known for your unusual appearance or ideas. Or your siblings could be Aquarian.

(Aside: My sister has Aquarius in 3rd house and I have Taurus in 3rd house – she’s a Taurus and I have Aquarius rising!)

Pluto will challenge you to transform your mind and how you think and communicate and may intensify shadow issues in this area. You may want to explore profound subjects and it’s a good time to study or research in-depth. You may also uncover fears, doubts and obsessive thoughts as hidden motivations come to the surface to be purged. But you can gain a deeper understanding of your own mind and may find your voice and begin to communicate with more power.

You may also see big changes in your local environment and power struggles in the neighbourhood that force you to change how you think and communicate. Any situation that doesn’t work or has been causing problems for a while could breakdown now, such as car trouble or difficult neighbours. Or you could get involved with social reform in your local neighbourhood, such as environmental or traffic schemes.

Aquarius – 4th House

With Aquarius in the fourth house your home and family and private life are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards parents, ancestors, roots, and any real estate that you may own. Your home may be filled with friends and people from the local community, a meeting place where ideas are shared or even a commune. It may be high-tech or include space for doing scientific experiments in the garage or shed.

You may feel distant or detached from your family or connect with them via technology, or see friends as your real family. You could be the family weirdo who always has to do things their own way, or come from a family of eccentrics and geniuses. You may like to experiment with different ways of living or need plenty of freedom to find your roots. But the foundation of your life needs to be based on something more than family and grounded in the concepts of freedom and humanity.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your home and family life and may intensify shadow issues in this area. There may be a challenge to your feelings of security at home and a desire for real inner security that pushes you to make changes. You may need to renovate your home or rebuild or move to a more suitable location. This may be triggered by a change in your relationship to your parents and there could be power struggles or even deaths and separations.

These changes could also bring up memories from your childhood, including emotional and psychological patterns that have made you who you are. These might not reflect your true self so you may need to do some excavating and purging of old fears and compulsions that don’t really belong to you but come from family patterns. It’s a good time for therapy and you can deepen the foundations of your life and become more authentically whole.

Aquarius – 5th House

With Aquarius in the fifth house your children and need for creativity and self-expression are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards romance, hobbies, entertainment, sports, and gambling. Your children may be Aquarians or have those traits and you give them lots of freedom to be themselves, taking a hands-off or even detached approach. You may see your children as friends or equals, or sometimes act aloof from them which they could find alienating.

You may have an unconventional attitude towards romance and see friendship as more important, being attracted by intelligence and a meeting of minds. You could be emotionally distant and aloof, with a desire for plenty of freedom to experiment and be yourself. You may enjoy unusual sports or hobbies in science and technology, such as multi-player games or games that require logic and a lot of thought. Your creative self-expression may be futuristic and experimental, involving technology and perhaps a love of science fiction.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your approach to children and creative projects and may intensify shadow issues in this area. Your children could go through some big changes now that force you to adapt and change as well. This may trigger power struggles or bring up fears and doubts about yourself as a parent that encourage you to go deeper in your relationship with your children.

You may also have intense romance and dating experiences and could be transformed by a relationship even if it doesn’t last long. The intensity of your feelings could bring struggles with obsessive emotions, jealousy, and power games, and be careful of stalking in yourself or others. Aquarius – 6th House

With Aquarius in the sixth house your daily routines, work or job, and health issues are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards colleagues and employees, pets, and service. You have an unconventional approach to work and may work in technology and science, social reform, politics and think tanks, or get involved in activism to create fair working conditions or for animal welfare. You may see your work colleagues as friends and equals and need freedom to do things your own way as you don’t like being told what to do.

You may use technology to organise your daily routine and could use gadgets to track your activities and health. Your diet could be unusual and you may like to experiment with alternative therapies, medicines and diets. But you could also be detached from your body and spend too much time in your head, leading to health problems such as nervous tension and insomnia. Other Aquarian health issues include difficulties with the shins and ankles, bad circulation, varicose veins, nerve damage and numbness, as well as issues with blood pressure and the heart.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your daily routines, work and health and may intensify shadow issues in this area. You may have difficulties at work, such as power struggles or health issues, that force you to change your approach. You may need to transform the way you work or find a new job that suits you better but take your time to explore your options. It may take a while to find the right job or settle into a new routine.

You can also transform your health and habits as you become more aware of what works and what doesn’t. You may try to push yourself too hard and overwork or not get enough sleep and this could cause health problems. Your health could breakdown if you haven’t been taking care of yourself before this transit, but you can rebuild yourself during this time, although be careful of fads, especially extreme diets.

Aquarius – 7th House

With Aquarius in the seventh house your attitude towards long-term relationships and partners is Aquarian, including business partnerships, therapists, consultants, lawyers, and open enemies. Your relationships may work best when they’re based on friendship, equality and a meeting of minds. Your partner may be Aquarian or embody those qualities, or may be a scientist, techie, humanitarian, or unusual in some way.

You may form unconventional partnerships or prefer open relationships with plenty of freedom to be yourself. A tendency to be aloof and distant towards others may alienate you from your partner, and fixed ideas about how relationships should work could cause problems. In extreme cases, you may never marry or avoid close relationships altogether.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your relationships and may intensify shadow issues in this area. Relationships that have been difficult before this transit could breakdown or go through a crisis, with power struggles, control issues, fears and unconscious patterns of compulsion, obsession, jealousy and rage. Even healthy relationships will deepen and transform as your feelings are intensified.

You may be uncomfortable with these powerful feelings, depending on the rest of your chart, but you can use this time to discover where you give power over to others and learn about your shadow by examining the state of your relationships. It could be a good time for therapy, either for yourself or as a couple, and you can transform how you relate while staying true to yourself. Be careful of getting into fights with enemies and try to see them as a reflection of an aspect of your own psyche so you can learn from the experience.

Aquarius – 8th House

With Aquarius in the eighth house your attitude towards shared resources and other people’s money is Aquarian, as well as inheritance, taxes, debts and loans, your use of power, the mysteries of life and death, and psychology. You may want to explore the laws of nature through science or metaphysics, and may find unusual ways to transform yourself. You may borrow money from friends or receive an inheritance from an unusual source.

You may have an unconventional sex life, preferring to experiment and keep things open. But your desire to be free from your instinctual nature could make you emotionally distant during sex, with a tendency to avoid deep attachments and keep lovers at arm’s length. This may cause problems in your relationships due to a lack of passion and emotional coldness, depending on the rest of your chart.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your approach to shared resources and finances and may intensify shadow issues in this area. You may experience power struggles with money, debt and resources shared with a partner or through business, and there could be extreme gains or losses through inheritance. There could also be sexual power struggles and manipulation that brings up compulsive feelings of jealousy and rage, as well as hidden fears and traumas that resurface needing to be healed.

It’s a good time to explore the mysteries of life and/or your own psyche and you could do some profound research that deepens your experience of life. You may encounter death and loss as the old parts of your life fall away. This doesn’t mean that you will die – it depends on your age and other factors in the chart – but you may go through a death/rebirth process that brings you face to face with the ultimate questions of life.

Aquarius – 9th House

With Aquarius in the ninth house your need for meaning is Aquarian, including through religion, philosophy, travel, higher education, teaching, and publishing. Your philosophy of life is rational, humanitarian and progressive, or may be unconventional and open to unusual perspectives. You need the freedom to find your own meaning and may search for answers in science, cosmology, astronomy or astrology.

You may spend time studying Aquarian subjects and may prefer to work outside the academic system so you can follow your own independent course. You may have had an unusual education and tend to approach any subject from an original viewpoint, and you could publish or teach your ideas. You may travel to unusual places, off the beaten track, and have friends all over the world.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your beliefs and what life means to you and may intensify shadow issues in this area. You may experience some kind of crisis of faith or breakdown of your belief system that forces you to rethink how you see the world and why you’re here. This may happen as a result of power struggles within your church or spiritual group or community, or because you have an experience that overturns your old views. You could also become fanatical and try to impose your beliefs onto others.

You may want to study profound subjects of philosophy and religion, or get involved with groups who want to use these ideas to reform society. You can learn a huge amount if you’re willing to let life teach you, or you can learn through education, study or travel, and your view of the world can deepen and become wiser by the end of the transit.

Aquarius – 10th House

With Aquarius in the tenth house your career, status and reputation, public life, and vocation are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards authority figures and employers. Your career or vocation could involve science and technology, social reform and humanitarianism, or working with groups or with friends. The world may see you as weird, unusual, and intelligent, but also aloof, distant and cold.

You may see authority figures as friends or equals and may prefer to follow your own path rather than have a boss. You need to be true to yourself in your choice of career and find a way to contribute something unique that expresses your individuality and inventiveness. Your principles are important to you but they must also benefit society or the local community.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your career and your approach towards employers and authority figures and may intensify shadow issues in this area. There may be conflict and power struggles with people in authority or you may struggle with your own authority and whether you want power and how you use it. Any ruthless tendencies to control others will cause problems and you may be forced to change by failures and losses at work and at home. This encourages you to deepen your motivations and ambitions and rethink your approach.

You can achieve great success, status and recognition during this transit if you’re willing to act with integrity, authenticity and humanity. This is most likely if you know yourself well and have been working towards success for a while, especially in Aquarian areas but also in relation to the house positions of Saturn and Uranus in your chart. You can work hard to achieve your ambitions but your goals must be true to who you really are. If you don’t know yourself, you can find your true vocation by exploring different paths until you find one that expresses your true purpose by the end of the transit.

Aquarius – 11th House

With Aquarius in the eleventh house your friends, acquaintances, and social networks, and hopes and aspirations are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards groups, community and society and collective action. You need to connect with lots of different people who share your view of life and may have many friends around the world connected via technology. Your friends may be Aquarian, unusual or weird, or you could join progressive and humanitarian groups working for social reform, or groups for intellectuals and revolutionaries.

You may have an idealistic view of friendship and fixed ideas that could alienate others, and your curious mix of friendliness and detachment may confuse people. Your principles and need to be true to yourself may be more important to you than the groups that you belong to and you may leave groups or friends that don’t reflect your values or threaten your freedom.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your approach to friendship and group interactions and may intensify shadow issues in this area. Your friends are a reflection of who you are so as you change, your friends will change too. You may meet new friends who have a transformative effect on your life, or you may be the agent of change for others. You have no patience for superficial friends and will end any association that doesn’t allow you to be true to yourself.

You could also be changed by encounters in a group and could become a leader. But be careful of extreme fanaticism, ideological groupthink, demagoguery, or following someone who’s leading you up the garden path. You could be led astray by the wrong friends or have to deal with power struggles in groups that undermine what you’re trying to achieve. You may also rethink your goals and hopes for the future and could drop certain activities or friends because they no longer reflect who you are.

Aquarius – 12th House

With Aquarius in the twelfth house your karma, fate, secrets and unconscious patterns of self-undoing are Aquarian, as well as your attitude towards isolation, hospitals, prisons, depth psychology, mysticism, and hidden enemies. You may have unusual and intuitive ways of exploring the unconscious and can tap into the collective mind on an intellectual level. You may be interested in radical or extreme ideas in psychology or have unusual spiritual experiences in groups or with friends.

Your desire for social reform may lead to self-sacrifice through political movements and ideologies. Or you may feel alienated from society and isolate yourself from others, holding yourself aloof and emotionally detached. You may hide eccentric or unusual behaviour and fear being seen as crazy or different, and may keep secrets from your friends, which alienates you further.

Pluto will challenge you to transform your secret life and hidden motivations and may intensify shadow issues in this area. You may rethink everything in your life until now, depending on your age, and may need to confront the consequences of past actions or even karma from previous lives or your ancestors. Old patterns, wounds and fears come to the surface so they can be healed and released or transmuted into wisdom.

A friend may be revealed as a secret enemy but this may reflect your own attitude towards yourself. You may want to retreat or withdraw from life but be sure you’re not running away or trying to escape from uncomfortable feelings. Even if you do withdraw, you’ll still need to deal with your own depths. You can go deep into your psyche now and free yourself from whatever is stopping you from being true to yourself so you can be reborn when Pluto crosses your Ascendant and enters your first house.
