When Uranus transits the 2nd House your need for freedom and change influences your material resources, self-worth and values. Uranus speeds things up and disrupts old patterns and represents your need for independence and change in this area.

When Uranus transits the 2nd house you may experience disruption and surprises with your money and finances, how you earn a living, your possessions and resources, and feelings of security. You could earn a living from Uranian professions, such as science, technology, astrology, or social reform, or find an unusual job that’s perfect for you as an individual.
There may be sudden changes to your income or a surprise reversal in your wealth, including gains or losses. You may also discover inner resources and talents that you didn’t know you had, or you may choose to train in a new area to develop useful skills that will open up your life and future possibilities. Follow your intuition and trust yourself to experiment and try out new things.
The point of this transit is to align your security needs with your values so that your work and financial situation reflects who you are as an individual and allows you to be free to explore and grow.
Possibilities with Uranus transiting the 2nd House:
- Unexpected promotion at work
- Becoming self-employed or financially independent
- Taking calculated risks
- Developing new talents
- Finding greater freedom at work
Watch out for:
- Boredom at work
- Impulsive actions
- Job losses
- Hoarding old possessions
- Spending too much money
My notes:
Uranus transited my 2nd house from 2008 to 2019, from age 38 to 49, and it coincided with some big changes in my work and financial situation. Prior to this I had been experimenting with new identities and had suddenly become a writer while Uranus was in my 1st house.
At the start of this transit I won a screenwriting competition which was a huge surprise. It happened when Saturn was conjunct my Sun and the prize was to work on three drafts of the script with an editor allowing me to consolidate my new identity as a writer and learn more about the craft. My screenplay received some excellent feedback but I was unable to find anyone willing to produce it as the Credit Crunch crashed the economy.
So I decided to be flexible and started work on my first novel instead, later publishing it in 2014. I also began blogging in 2010 when Uranus was opposite my natal Mercury on my Free Your Pen blog which later became the inspiration for my second book published in 2017.
Meanwhile my job recording a talking newspaper for the local council began to unravel and the service was shut down in 2011 due to government cuts, throwing me onto the dole. This happened when Uranus was opposite my natal Mercury conjunct Pluto in the 8th house and Pluto was square my natal Uranus in the 8th house.
I received some redundancy pay which added to my savings and gave me the freedom to take time away from work to concentrate on my writing. As Uranus moved to oppose my natal Uranus, I officially went self-employed, something I was only able to do because I was prepared in advance for the disruption to my income. Not working 9–5 also gave me space to begin healing various health issues.
As Uranus approached the end of my 2nd house I self-published several books and my writing slowly drifted into the realm of astrology – a subject I’d been studying since 1992 when Saturn crossed my ascendant and Uranus was conjunct my Part of Fortune in the 12th house.
It was never my intention to work as an astrologer but by the end of this transit things were starting to shift in that direction. I resisted, of course, so when Uranus entered my 3rd house it started with a bang…
