Uranus Transits: 10th House

When Uranus transits the 10th House your need for freedom and change influences your career, vocation and status in the world. Uranus speeds things up and disrupts old patterns and represents your need for independence and change in this area.

When Uranus transits the 10th house you may experience disruption and surprises to your career or vocation, status, reputation, and public life, and in your relationship to employers and authority figures. Remember your vocation may not be the same as your job so either or both could change.

There may be sudden opportunities at work or an unexpected promotion or job offer, or you could move to an entirely new field. You could start your own business, or follow an unusual career path, and may become interested in Uranian areas of work, such as science, technology, and social reform, or unconventional vocations like astrology.

You may feel bored or restless at work and this could make you reckless and impulsive so try to think things through before walking out of your job or burning your professional bridges. However, if you resist necessary change, it could trigger disruption due to forces beyond your control, such as a sudden job loss.

Losing your job may be shocking but it also gives you the opportunity to make a fresh start. Trust your intuition and be honest with yourself about what you really want and need in your work. Take your time and experiment by trying different jobs until you find the one that’s right for you.

Possibilities with Uranus transiting the 10th House:
  • Sudden promotion or job offer
  • Becoming self-employed
  • Fighting for equality and fairness at work
  • Resigning over principles or an ethical disagreement
  • Discovering your true vocation
Watch out for:
  • Fed up with being told what to do
  • Sudden job loss
  • Loss of reputation
  • Conflict with parents
  • You’re not the boss of me!
My notes:

Uranus transited my 10th house from 1983 to 1986, from age 13 to 16, and coincided with when I was at high school (or secondary school). I didn’t have a career so it mostly influenced my attitude towards authority and my sense of music as a vocation.

Being a teenager with Uranus in this house helped me to resist some of the poor parenting that I was subjected to at that time. I was able to develop a healthy distrust of authority figures, especially the ‘do as I say’ type of irrational authority. For example, around age 15 I finally snapped and hit my dad back when he was doing his usual bullying routine and he never hit me again.

Meanwhile, I spent most of my spare time playing music, doing music exams on the piano and flute, and performing with various orchestras. I toured Germany, Belgium and Holland over a couple of summers with the Brighton Junior Youth Orchestra, and played at the Royal Albert Hall in London with the East Sussex Youth Concert Band around the same time as doing my O Levels.

Near the start of this transit I visited a recording studio for the first time with a friend and was transfixed by all the flashing lights and knobs. I knew without a doubt that this was what I wanted to do and my dream of becoming a sound engineer was born. By the end of this transit I started at sixth form to do my A Levels…

  1. So…..Uranus is going to be transiting my 10th house for the rest of my life. Mostly in my 10th while opposing natal Neptune…..and transiting Neptune transiting my natal Uranus.

Should I just end it now? Because WTF

    1. I don’t know how old you are but Uranus only spends 7 years in each sign. So depending on which house system you use it won’t be in one house for much more than that. Besides, you don’t know what will happen and taking a positive approach is always best. Less of the doom!
