When Uranus transits the 11th House your need for freedom and change influences your friendships, long-term goals and relationship to society. Uranus speeds things up and disrupts old patterns and represents your need for independence and change in this area.

When Uranus transits the 11th house you may experience disruption and surprises with your friends and group associations, your social networks and community, and your long-term goals, aspirations and hopes. You could make new friends or lose old ones, or you could join groups involved in Uranian areas, such as science, technology, astronomy, social reform, or astrology.
Your friends could introduce new ideas that change your view of yourself and the world, or you could be the catalyst that changes others. You may want to end a friendship or leave a group if they don’t support your desire for change or if they no longer reflect who you are, and your feelings towards your friends could be changeable.
Your hopes and aspirations could change in unexpected ways and you may suddenly achieve a goal that you never believed would happen. You may be inspired by a vision of where you belong in the larger family of humanity and this could radically alter your long-term goals and ambitions, sending your life in a new direction.
Possibilities with Uranus transiting the 11th House:
- A vision of a new goal or aspiration
- Meeting interesting new friends
- Joining exciting new groups
- Attending workshops or seminars
- Getting involved in activism and social reform
Watch out for:
- Resisting change that triggers a backlash
- Falling out with friends
- Rebellious group actions that get you in trouble
- Being led astray by a friend
- Fighting over principles or ideals
My notes:
Uranus transited my 11th house from 1987 to 1991, from ages 16 to 21, and coincided with finishing high school and leaving home to go to college. The whole period was filled with constant socialising and the forming and challenging of my identity and goals.
At the start of this transit I was at sixth form doing my A Levels and my spare time was filled with music, playing concerts with various orchestras (on flute) and gigs on the piano and saxophone. All my friendships and the groups I belonged to revolved around music and every decision I made and goal I had was music-centric.
After completing my A Levels I worked for a year at the Virgin Megastore in Brighton to save money before going to college. I had fun flaunting my in-depth knowledge of music and made loads of new friends, one of whom remained a rare long-term (and long-distance) friend for many years. Before leaving Brighton, I recorded some songs in a studio with one of my school friends, cementing my long-term goal of becoming a sound engineer.
I moved to Newcastle in 1989 to study music on the Graduate Diploma course for jazz and popular music, one of few such performing arts courses in those days (it’s a BMus (Hons) course now). It turned out I was the only girl in my class, an unusual situation, although there were a few girls in the other year groups.
It went well at first, but by the end of this transit I was in crisis, struggling with an emotional meltdown and psychotic episodes that almost killed me. The breakdown was triggered by the realisation that I didn’t know who I was and I was overwhelmed by chaotic material bursting back into my consciousness from the depths.
Uranus was squaring its own natal position as well as my natal Chiron, but the main culprits for this breakdown were Saturn and Neptune entering my 12th house, Pluto opposing natal Saturn, and the progressed Sun conjunct natal Pluto. What came next revolutionised my life beyond anything I could have imagined…
