When Pluto transits the 1st house your need for transformation and power influences your sense of self and appearance and how you approach life. Pluto destroys and regenerates old structures and represents your need to be empowered and reborn in this area.

When Pluto transits the 1st house it brings intensity and evolution to the way you express yourself and present yourself to others, as well as your health and feelings of physical vitality. It also allows you to incorporate more Plutonian qualities into your identity and how you see life. How this transit affects you will depend on the age at which it happens, as well as how you responded to the transit of Pluto through your 12th house.
This transit will slowly transform your identity and you may feel pushed out of your comfort zone as old identities are stripped away. You may feel confused or lost while you explore who you want to be and others may react to you differently which adds to the confusion.
Pluto will challenge you to transform your view of yourself and how you approach life and may intensify shadow issues of power and control in this area. Health or relationship problems could reveal where you need to change, and your sense of self could fall apart if you haven’t been true to yourself or have limited self-awareness.
This may involve a confrontation with your shadow as you become more aware of hidden motivations and compulsions that make you behave in self-centred or destructive ways. Be careful not to be too controlling of others, or yourself, and focus on self-improvement rather than trying to force others to adapt to your demands.
Now is the time to find out who you really are so you can be more authentic and empowered as an individual. Pluto empowers you to be true to yourself but you might not feel it straightaway. You may feel unsure how to use the energy or how to direct it creatively. But over time you can learn how to handle this new power and make it your own.
By working with Pluto you can develop greater self-control and mastery over how you approach life and be reborn as a whole person. The renewal will come after you’ve purged the parts of your being that were holding you back.
Possibilities with Pluto transiting the 1st house:
- Letting go of the past
- Rebirth into a new life
- Radical changes to your identity
- Transforming your appearance and/or health
- Discovering hidden talents and gifts
- Empowering yourself to be more authentic
Watch out for:
- Breakdown in health and illness
- Loss of your job
- Loss of a relationship
- Shadow eruptions and power struggles
- Extreme emotions, compulsions and obsessions
- Self-destructive behaviour
My Notes:
Pluto will transit my 1st house from 2029 to 2059, from age 58 to 89 and possibly for the rest of my life unless I live to a ripe old age. If you’ve had this transit, please share your experience in the comments below…

I’m 21 and just found out of my pluto transit in the 1st house. I’ve always struggled with my identity (I have Neptune in the 1st house) so I’m looking forward to find myself and stay strong for this years ahead. Any suggestions?

The best advice for any Pluto transit is to not resist any necessary changes that come up. You might surprise yourself over the coming years. Just take your time and try not to be too idealistic. Some of your dreams could be trashed but new ones will appear that will be a better fit for you. Good luck!

Jessica, Thank you for sharing this. I also have been dealing with PLUTO IN THE 1st HOUSE. In fact I made a video on YouTube about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BQpm_zhnhI
This is a very heavy aspect. I have dealt with over 14 years of Pluto in the 1st house already as I have 13 degrees of Pluto in the 1st house as well as ALL OF AQUARIUS completely intercepted in my first house. Over the course of the last 11 years I have lost 370 Pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!! I used to be over 500 POUNDS and in a WHEELCHAIR!!!!! for over 7 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!
I truly believed that my life was that of being trapped inside of what people used to call a MONSTER! Now here is what is truly weird: I KNEW IT WOULD HAPPEN!
We moved to Seattle in 2010. My daughter chose to go to college here at my urging. I knew that in Seattle, it was my VENUS ZONE. Venus sits on the AC from the 12th. Since I was living as a MONSTER, I was desperate so I followed my daughter to college. That was 15 years ago. I was able to save my life. Seattle is also my PLUTO ZONE in Astrocartography. I knew I was moving to a PLUTO LINE. I knew that PLUTO LINES either KILL YOU OFF or REGENERATE YOU! It was a desperate move, but it really worked.
Now I am called CAPRICORNTIGRESS. Astrologer of Astrology A Look Inside. I have been online for almost 8 years and I have created over 3000 videos!!!! WOW! That is incredible considering I was a lady that simply hid herself away because she thought she was a monster!
Pluto has completely turned me into a new person. I look in the mirror and ask myself WHO IS THAT!? I am 62 now and I suddenly have you guys looking at me again! WHAT IN THE WORLD? It is an incredible change. The most amazing change? Well the combination of Pluto and Venus here in Seattle has literally made me more physically attractive. Someone who was considered monstrous! That is insane!
So yes!!!!!! I believe in the miraculous potential of PLUTO! It transforms. FOR SURE! Wishing you many years of GREATNESS with Pluto in your 1st house.
I will leave with this last comment. As you know PLUTO in the 1st house is regenerating (or destroying) or first house of the body and personality. We are never going to be the same people we were before PLUTO entered into our first house. It creates incredible changes in the area of THE PHYSICAL BODY and PHYSICAL APPEARANCE! I actually get told that I am AI or that I am not REAL or that I BLEACH MY SKIN or that I am FAKE in some way! Now this part may be the combination of having Neptune in Scorpio on the MC at Birth or having the SUN conjunct the Ascendant at birth. But it is the one thing I noticed the increased JEALOUSY of others based on my IMAGE or PERSONALITY! But we can not stop being GREAT because we are powerful in one area, in this case in the physical image we project out to the world.
Would love to hear your response. Blessings.

Dear Jessica,
A few weeks ago, I found your website while searching for a good interpretation of Cheiron. What a surprise! I’m impressed by this wealth of information and clear, accurate explanations. Thank you for that.
In my birth chart, Pluto is in the 7th house in Virgo, conjunct the North Node, sextile Mars in 6, trine the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter in the 12th house, and square the Moon in the 4th house/5th house cusp. The Moon is the apex of a yod with the Sun sextile Neptune in the 9th. Pluto is the ruler of the 10th house.
Pluto has been in my 1st house since early 2016 and first conjunct Saturn, which is conjunct the Capricorn ascendant on the side of the first house in my birth chart and conjunct Jupiter on the side of the 12th house.
From early 2017 to mid-2020, I suffered a severe burnout. Those were very difficult years, and the complete lack of energy was terrifying. Pluto took away my job. I haven’t worked since. My work gave me many different identities (house 1 Capricorn). I had various professions and jobs and at the age of 14 I already wanted to go to work. I didn’t find it difficult to let go of all that after 42 years. Work was play, I enjoyed it and did it with enormous intensity.
Pluto has now entered Aquarius, (the entire sign of Aquarius falls in the first house. The first house runs from 16:51 Capricorn to 12:11 Pisces. So Pluto will probably remain here for the rest of my life. I am 64 years old). around the same time as the second Uranus square with itself. In my birth chart, Uranus is in the 7th house in Leo, opposite Venus conjunct Chiron in Aquarius in the 1st house, and both square the Midheaven. It’s a grand square, and no other planet is connected to it. Transiting Uranus entered my fourth house, and shortly after, it also squares Chiron for the second time. That takes me back to the early 1980s, the first square from the MC. The progressed Sun also entered the sign of Aquarius. Like a bolt from the blue, my life changed and my world expanded. I discovered I was lesbian, and that felt like nothing less than a rebirth. Along with that new identity, which I expressed intensely, came campaigning for equal rights for women and minorities, against nuclear weapons, and so on. During that 30-year period, my interest in astrology, Jungian psychology, and politics grew. In short… Aquarius identities 🙂
At 52, the progressive Sun enterd Pisces, and identities dissolve. I found this quite incomprehensible at the time. At one point, I realized it felt like I wasn’t a lesbian anymore. But then what? Straight? No! It simply wasn’t important anymore. I found it a difficult time, because where did I belong now? I felt like everything I’d lived so intensely with and for was disappearing, and what had I achieved? Nothing.
Over the years, I felt I wanted to “go home.” I recognized it was symbolic, but I also literally did it and moved to the area where I used to live and where my family lives. It was a strong desire.
And now, with the second Uranus square to Chiron, I’m at home, in the 4th house, and I’m not out in the community or on the streets to express my anger and sadness about everything happening in the world right now. I’ve struggled with that lately.
But I think this is all part of the Pisces identity… the searching… I don’t really have a sense of identity right now, and that’s probably precisely the point. Pluto in Aquarius tells me that all Aquarian identities need to be let go, just like the Capricorn work identities before. I’m not any of those. But still… I’m not a Pisces identity either. Just like the other identities, it’s just a role. I play someone whose identity/personality is dissolved 😄. All in all, it’s a beautiful adventure. When Pluto enters Pisces in 20 years, that will also coincide with Uranus/Chiron. The return and symbolically the completion of the individuation process.
It’s become a long story… I hope it’s readable and accurate. My English is good enough to read but not to write, so I used Google Translate. I’m Dutch.
Kind regards,
Ellen

I’m waiting for your article on the transit of the twelfth house. My life for the next twenty some years as Pluto eventually conjuncts my Mercury, then my Sun and finally the Ascendent.
Fun times!
