Pluto Transits: 3rd House

When Pluto transits the 3rd house your need for transformation and power influences how you think and communicate your ideas. Pluto destroys and regenerates old structures and represents your need to be empowered and reborn in this area.

When Pluto transits the 3rd house it brings intensity and evolution to your thinking, communication, relationships with neighbours, siblings and relatives, your daily routines and local environment. Pluto will challenge you to transform your mind and how you think and communicate and it’s a good time to study or research anything in depth.

You can also gain a deeper understanding of your own mind and may find your voice and begin to communicate with more power and authenticity. You could develop your writing skills or feel empowered to do more public speaking and your speech or writing could have a profound effect on others.

You may gain insights into other people’s motives and behaviour, as well as your own hidden patterns of thinking. Old emotional patterns from childhood could come to the surface to be purged and you may be able to free yourself from fears, doubts and obsessive thoughts that have been influencing your behaviour from the shadows.

You could become more suspicious or even paranoid, especially if you overthink your interactions with others. But you can also learn how your mind works and overcome negative thinking by transforming your fears into self-mastery and inner strength. You can gain greater mastery over the way your emotions influence your thoughts and vice versa.

This transit may be a good time to go through therapy and you should seek support if you’re struggling. You may also want to keep a diary or journal about your thoughts and experiences. This will help you to process the changes taking place and discover more about who you really are deep down.

You may see big changes in your local environment and there could be power struggles or difficulties with your neighbours or siblings that force you to change how you think and communicate. Your siblings could be going through Plutonian experiences, or your own survival instincts could be triggered by circumstances outside of your control.

Be especially careful of shadow projection because almost any interaction with others could erupt in surprising ways. Either you or others could have an extreme emotional reaction to a passing remark, for example, or something innocuous triggers an argument out of all proportion to the cause.

Any situation that doesn’t work or has been causing problems for a while could breakdown now, such as car trouble or difficult neighbours. Or you could get involved with social reform in your local neighbourhood, such as environmental or traffic schemes, that quickly gets out of control if you’re not careful. On the other hand, you can also achieve real change that transforms your neighbourhood for the better.

Possibilities with Pluto transiting the 3rd house:
  • Profound conversations and silences
  • Deepening your understanding of others and your own mind
  • Mastering your thinking to release the past
  • Developing your writing or speaking abilities
  • Exploring profound subjects in depth
  • Sharing what you learn with others
Watch out for:
  • Obsessive thinking and intrusive thoughts
  • Suspicion and paranoia
  • Mental or nervous breakdown
  • Power struggles with neighbours or siblings
  • Difficulties at school or with education
  • Car trouble, breakdowns or accidents

  1. Hi, I’m going through this transit currently which is also a pluto square to natal pluto. I must say that the phrasing of “Pluto challenge you to transform” didn’t ring true for me unless one can see destruction, loss and death as a challenge. I don’t :D. To me, Pluto set’s your house on fire and you are welcome to stay inside if you want to.

I was reading other people’s experience of Pluto transits, especially the square to the natal and some people report positively. Mostly the kind of “I ended up being the CEO and losing everything along the way was worth it” kinda of reports. I would say the happily saturnian ones.

The challenge about trying to decipher a transit is that it never happens in isolation and it heavily relays on the natal chart in total. For example, having a well placed natal moon makes it easier for the person to adapt and “make the best out of what’s available”. What I’m trying to say is I’m not sure if reading about all the transits that I’m experiencing have been helpful in practical sense but mostly for helpful for keeping a relative sense of sanity and somewhat a guard against falling into total helplessness. (Currently as well neptune square neptune which also formin T square with natal moon-neptune opposition. Saturn sat on the IC for too long of a time, Pluto inconjuct natal moon etc.)

Surprisingly there is a plutonian theme that I haven’t seen mentioned in many of the resources I read. Namely, betrayal. I guess it’s implied within the themes of death, destruction and ending. However, I see it worthy of being mentioned since scorpionic energies are relational to a significant extent. This is also my personal bias since my natal Pluto is in scorpio and the third house transit was crowned with a Cain-Abel moment. It makes you wonder if Abel ever saw it coming, Did Cain look him in the eye when he ended his life or did he wait for him to turn his back? Was Cain happier thereafter? You’d wish he was and the killing of his brother wasn’t for nothing.

Another theme that seems to be less talked about is suicidality, it’s a death topic after all. I guess the word is too dirty and it’s better to be tucked away nicely under the term “mental health”. Because that is what Pluto asks for I guess, keep it neat and cute :D. My experience that it’s a wave, it will pass, even though it feels like the never ending ocean in the midst of it. It passes. Don’t give in.

Car troubles? This is a thing. I guess it’s just a third house tool to drain your resources, financial and mental. So I guess in each house tools will be used to drain resources and apply pressure.

How the transit is going over all? Resentfully putting one foot in front of the other, otherwise you are welcomed to stay in the burning house.
