Pluto Transits: 11th House

When Pluto transits the 11th house your need for transformation and power influences your friendships, long-term goals and relationship to society. Pluto destroys and regenerates old structures and represents your need to be empowered and reborn in this area.

When Pluto transits the 11th house it brings intensity and evolution to your friends and group associations, your social networks and community, and your long-term goals, aspirations and hopes. Your friends are a reflection of who you are, so as you change your friends will change too. You may meet new friends who have a transformative effect on your life, or you may be the agent of change for others.

Your friendships could become more intense and extreme emotions may be triggered that force you to face the wounds of the past so you can heal and let them go. There could be power struggles or conflicts that encourage you to search for new friends, or you may simply outgrow your friends and move on.

You may have no patience for superficial friends and will end any association that doesn’t allow you to be true to yourself or reflect who you want to become. But you should be able to develop deep and profound connections with true friends by the end of the transit.

This also applies to any groups that you belong to and you could be transformed by experiences that you have in a group setting. You could become a group leader or have to deal with power struggles that undermine what you’re trying to achieve. Be especially careful of extreme fanaticism and ruthless behaviour because you could be misled by ideological groupthink into doing something that gets you in trouble.

Group experiences may reflect old childhood wounds or events from the past that you need to re-live so you can process the feelings and reintegrate them rather than acting them out or using them to justify attacking others. This will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself as well as other people.

You may also rethink your goals and hopes for the future and could drop certain activities because they no longer reflect who you are. You may feel confused about where you belong in society and need to explore different options or roles and may feel a bit lost before you find the right path.

You could discover a new vision of your life that you would like to work towards and a greater sense of purpose or new ideals that you believe in. This may happen because you find new friends or you may discover new friends as a result of a change in your sense of direction.

My Notes:

Pluto transited my 11th house from 2005 to 2014, from age 35 to 44, and coincided with my mid-life transits which slowly transformed and disintegrated the structure of my life, changing my friends and long-term goals in the process.

The transit began when I was writing lots of screenplays and I did a couple of writing workshops to improve my skills where I met new friends. Some of us formed a writing group so we could support each other as we learned our craft, and inevitably, I ended up running it because nobody else could be bothered.

I had some early success with one of my scripts when I won a screenwriting competition but then became disillusioned with how the film industry works. So I decided to try writing a novel instead and also began blogging. Unfortunately my health began to suffer around the same time and my life began to unravel.

I disbanded the writing group because the members weren’t making an effort and were more interested in talking about writing than actually writing. It was frustrating and not worth the energy, which I didn’t have to spare. I was also made redundant and thrown back onto the dole, giving me more time to write and deal with my health issues.

As Pluto approached the end of this house, I went self-employed as a writer despite the fact that I wasn’t earning any money from my work. It was a leap of faith, taken when Uranus was opposite my natal Uranus, marking my official mid-life crisis! I published my first novel just before Pluto slipped into my 12th house and the disintegration started in earnest. More on Pluto in 11th here.
