Uranus Transits: 3rd House

When Uranus transits the 3rd House your need for freedom and change influences how you think and communicate your ideas. Uranus speeds things up and disrupts old patterns and represents your need for independence and change in this area.

When Uranus transits the 3rd house it brings disruption and surprises to your thinking, communication, relationships with neighbours, siblings and relatives, your daily routines and local environment. The purpose behind this is to open your mind to a larger reality and awaken your consciousness to the Universal Mind.

This transit encourages you to revolutionise your thinking, break old habits, and open yourself to radical viewpoints and unusual ideas. You can transform your perception of reality and receive flashes of insight that could change your life in surprising ways.

But you may also become too radical in your ideas and alienate others in your refusal to compromise. Others may be shocked or offended by your viewpoints, leaving you feeling misunderstood. This is a sign that you need to develop greater flexibility in your thinking and style of communication.

The point of this transit is to learn to trust your intuition and express yourself with more freedom and authenticity. You can free yourself from old ways of thinking that are holding you back and prepare for the deep changes coming when Uranus enters your 4th house.

Possibilities with Uranus transiting the 3rd House:
  • Exploring science, technology, cosmology, or astrology
  • Adopting new methods of learning and/or teaching
  • Writing or sharing your ideas with others
  • Getting your news from different sources
  • Surprising encounters on social media or your local environment
  • Moving to a new location
Watch out for:
  • Arguments and estrangement from siblings or relatives
  • Difficult or annoying neighbours
  • Breakdown of communication due to fixed ideas
  • Disruption to education in school or college
  • Car problems and breakdowns
  • Disruption to daily schedule
My Notes:

Uranus has been transiting my 3rd house since age 49 in 2019 and will be there until 2027 and there’s been a lot of change and disruption, although I have Mercury conjunct Uranus in my natal chart so my mind is already full of big mad ideas, as featured on this website. 😉

Right from the start, when the Moon was conjunct Uranus on the cusp of my 3rd house, I fell and broke my wrist while walking in my local neighbourhood. I was on my way to the shop and had a shocking encounter with a dog who knocked me to the ground. A big disruption to my schedule that stretched into months as I dealt with wearing a cast and the physio to recover wrist movement afterwards.

There’s been a variety of disruptions with the neighbours, including some terrible attempts at playing the guitar at random hours, the electricity suddenly cutting out in the communal area of the flats, and a thrash metal band playing an impromptu gig in the street outside my flat at 11 pm – several times!

In one shocking event, my next-door neighbour was found dead by the police after others had contacted the housing association concerned that they hadn’t seen him for a while. There was lots of activity and comings and goings as they emptied and cleaned the flat and got it ready for the next tenant.

Closer to home, my phoneline suddenly died and I had no broadband or dial tone. It turned out to be an outage caused by vandalism – some scallywag stealing copper wire. Eventually I finally upgraded my broadband to fibre and entered the 21st century!

But before then my laptop started playing up, saying it needed a new battery. This was during lockdown and the Apple store was closed, although it turned out they wouldn’t repair it anyway because the machine was obsolete at only 7 years old. Thankfully my Mum gifted me a new laptop so the writing and this site could continue. Interestingly, she offered to buy it out of the blue without me even mentioning I had a problem, like she was psychic!

There was a fun moment in 2021 when my favourite podcast (Mystical American Patriots Society) gave me a shout out on air at the end of episode 67 of series 1. Not by name – that came later – but Smokestack gave me a jolt when he said:

“a shout out to our listener in Newcastle upon Tyne!”

In relation to writing and my astrology work, I put together an online course for those interested in learning how to calculate birth charts by hand. There was another surprise callout on this Cosmic Matrix podcast episode which I’d stumbled upon, and they read from one of my posts. And I finally bought some astrology software – again, entering the 21st century and making my life a little easier. 😅

Most recently, my neighbours got together to take our housing association to a rent tribunal to contest the charges for the communal services which had been hiked an absurd amount. During the process we uncovered issues that had been ignored for years and were costing us a ridiculous amount of money, and were able to obtain a refund.

No doubt there’ll be more changes to come…

  1. Hi JD. Im looking forward to the next instalment – I think I’m one house ahead of you. I say think, because on my chart, equal house vs Koch ( etc) is quite different. My lived experience says that i have just come out of 3rd and am now in 4th, but equal house would put Uranus a few deg into my 5th already… Could you comment on yr preferred house division style pls? Do you have some info written on that already?

    1. I haven’t covered house systems yet cos it’s not straightforward! You pretty much have to experiment and find what works for you.

I think house cusps are kind of fuzzy so a planet will sort of throw its energy forward across the cusp as it approaches. That means you can get previews of what’s coming up. But the best way is to just watch what happens. And with Uranus that can be quite obvious if he’s behaving true to form.

  2. i was checking when it was first in my 3rd, and decided to look at my whole childhood transits and realised that both sat and chi went backwards soon after i was born and then crossed their natal position when i was 9 months old, when something hugely traumatic happened, the first part that is. essentially a sat return , lol! i’d always been looking for pluto [ exact trine my moon by then, but who knows, pluto, and nep /moon. thy were all r when i was born. ] . or progressed something or other, not that i remember much about progression. do you have anything on that?
