Neptune Transits to Saturn

When Neptune transits natal Saturn your need for transcendence and imagination influences the structures and limitations of your life. Neptune inspires new dreams and dissolves old structures and represents your need to spiritualise and refine this area of your life.

When Neptune transits natal Saturn you may experience inspiration and confusion with your work and social status and the structures of your life, as well as your fears and doubts about your ambitions, how you take responsibility and your attitude towards authority.

Neptune dissolves your inner defences and opens you up to a wider perspective that reveals your illusions about yourself and reality. You may receive insights or visions that encourage you to change the structures of your life. This may involve facing your limitations and insecurities so you can heal and become stronger after the transit has passed.

Events may force you to confront your doubts about yourself in the house where Saturn is placed in your chart. This allows you to reconnect with lost parts of yourself and reintegrate your shadow. This may include healing old wounds and fears, as well as discovering hidden talents and inner resources that you can develop as you become more whole.

Hard aspects to Saturn (conjunction, square and opposition) may be more challenging and you could lose something that you’ve been relying on for security, such as a relationship or job but also beliefs or anything you’ve been identified with. Structures that have been holding you back could collapse and this may feel scary and destabilising. But over time you can find a new sense of inner security that’s based on something more true to who you are.

You may feel unable to live with the restrictions placed on you by others and this could cause problems with people in authority, such as your parents or boss. This process is really about transcending your childhood conditioning and you may want to question things you’ve always taken for granted.

This could make you feel uncomfortable and insecure and you may feel lost or confused about what you’re doing which could turn into depression if you’re not careful. Your energy levels may be lower than normal and you could suffer with psychosomatic health issues that are hard to diagnose. You may feel like you’re losing control and could struggle to tell the difference between what’s real and what isn’t.

Neptune heightens your imagination and dissolves your feelings of separateness allowing you to feel part of something larger than yourself. But you need to find a balance between maintaining your individuality and surrendering to a larger unity. You may receive mystical insights into the nature of reality but you also need to bring these down to earth by giving them form in some way. How you do this depends on the nature of the transit and how much you resist the process.

You could channel it into spiritual practice or service, as well as creative work of all kinds by using the discipline of Saturn to turn your dreams and visions into something real. You may need to overcome creative blocks or doubts in order to express your imagination, or spend more time developing the skills you need to make your ideas real.

Possibilities with Neptune transiting Saturn:
  • Developing new ambitions that expand your identity
  • Putting your imagination into creative work
  • Discovering new talents and gifts
  • Receiving visions and insights into reality
  • Healing old fears and doubts
  • Expressing compassion through service
Watch out for:
  • Collapse of structures and loss of security
  • Creative blocks or loss of inspiration
  • Difficulties with people in authority
  • Confusion about reality and loss of control
  • Depression and loss of direction in life
  • Low energy or hard to diagnose illnesses
My Notes:

I was born with Neptune opposite Saturn so the first transit was the trine to my natal Saturn in 1994-95, from age 23 to 25, when Neptune was in Capricorn in my 12th house. With Saturn in the 3rd house my fears and insecurities tend to focus on issues with communication and my intellectual abilities.

This transit coincided with when I was doing counselling training and then returned to college to study music production. The counselling course encouraged me to open up to others and communicate my fears. At the same time I learned how to listen effectively and respond with compassion and acceptance to the fears of others.

During the training I had to write a case study and was anxious that I’d done it wrong. So I asked the tutor to check my hastily typed notes to see if that was what he was after. He was so pleased that he asked me to read them out to the class to show how it should be done. This gave me a wider perspective on my abilities and by the end of the transit I returned to college to make my dream of becoming a sound engineer real.

Neptune transited square my natal Saturn in 2007-9, from age 36 to 38, when Neptune was in Aquarius in my 1st house. This coincided with when I was working as a sound engineer recording a talking newspaper for the local council while writing screenplays in my spare time.

At the start of the transit I attended a screenwriting course where I wrote an early draft of a script that went on to win a competition in 2008 when Saturn transited conjunct my natal Sun. The prize involved working with a script editor to improve three drafts of the screenplay.

This meant getting lots of feedback and learning how to communicate clearly without worrying too much what others would think of my ideas. I learnt a huge amount about writing and my confidence in my ability to write and communicate improved enormously. And my identity as a writer began to feel more real.

Neptune transited sextile my natal Saturn in 2021-23, from age 50 to 52, when Neptune was in Pisces in my 2nd house. This coincided with a period of intense writing for this blog on the back of positive feedback from readers and an increase in website traffic. I also wrote my first Astro Journal book, set up my Payhip store and created the Off-Grid Astrology course and book.

Out of interest the posts I wrote covered Pluto in Aquarius, Neptune in Aries, Uranus in Gemini, and their current cycles with each other, plus secondary progressions, and an excellent series on Faust.

This was all good stuff but underneath something else was brewing and at times I felt exhausted and full of doubts about what I was doing. There was a growing sense that I needed to reinvent myself again but this may have been due to Neptune moving closer to oppose my natal Pluto, seeping into my deep unconscious and making me uncomfortable…
