Pluto Transits to Neptune

When Pluto transits natal Neptune your need for transformation and power influences your ideals and desire to merge with something larger than yourself. Pluto destroys and regenerates old structures and represents your need to be empowered and reborn in this area.

When Pluto transits natal Neptune it brings intensity and evolution to your ideals and spirituality, your imagination and how you perceive transcendent levels of reality, as well as your illusions and desire to escape reality. This is a generational transit that affects whole groups of people at the same time but you’ll also experience it on a personal level based on the placement of your natal Neptune.

You can only ever experience the conjunction, sextile or square due to the current cyclical relationship between Pluto and Neptune. The sextile tends to be easier to handle while the conjunction and square may be more challenging. This also depends on the other aspects that Neptune makes to your natal chart as these will also be triggered by Pluto.

You could realise your dreams during this transit or become obsessed by a new ideal or desire. Your dreams could come true but not in the way that you imagined, or a dream could fail, perhaps because it was unrealistic or because it doesn’t feel meaningful to you anymore.

You may need to go through a period of disillusionment and confusion as you explore new ideals and possibilities and let go of your old attachments and identities. This may bring up feelings connected to wounds and emotional complexes from early in your life that need to be revisited, transformed and healed. You can then discover a deeper dimension to your dreams that’s closer to what your soul needs and a renewed sense of meaning in your life.

You may have a strong desire to dissolve your sense of separateness and merge with something greater than yourself and could experience a spiritual or mystical awakening. Or you may want to explore ways of transforming your consciousness using meditation or psychotropic drugs. You may have more intense dreams or want to channel your experiences into creative work.

But you may also need to be careful not to become lost in escapist or destructive behaviours, especially if you already have issues with addiction. This may be more likely if you have traumas that need healing and Pluto may force you to face what you’re avoiding so that you can become more whole.

You may also need to be careful of any spiritual groups that you join because you could get caught up in a cult or become prey to unscrupulous gurus. Be especially careful of spiritual bypassing where you use spiritual practice to avoid dealing with real problems or issues in the material world. And be careful not to get carried away by any visions that you have. They may be transformational but could also be misleading.

Possibilities with Pluto transiting Neptune:
  • Discovering a new dream or ideal to pursue
  • Letting go of unrealistic dreams and expectations
  • Spiritual awakening or mystical experience
  • Profound imagination and creative work
  • Intense dreams and psychic experiences
  • Increased compassion and love for others
Watch out for:
  • Disillusionment and the loss of a dream
  • Spiritual bypassing and self-deception
  • Dodgy spiritual teachers or gurus
  • Addiction to drugs and alcohol or computer games
  • Self-destructive behaviour and self-sabotage
  • Being ungrounded and away with the fairies
My Notes:

Like everyone, I was born with Pluto sextile Neptune so the first transit was the conjunction to my natal Neptune in 1994-95, from age 23 to 25, when Pluto was in Scorpio in my 9th house, and also sextile my natal Mercury at the same time. This coincided with when I was doing counselling training and working with vulnerable people who had alcohol and addiction problems.

I had experienced a spiritual awakening a couple of years earlier and this transit deepened my insight and revealed my false beliefs about my dream of becoming a sound engineer. I had assumed it would never happen. But halfway through the transit I was able to return to college to make my dream come true.

Pluto transited sextile my natal Neptune in 2022-23, from age 51 to 53, when Pluto was in Capricorn in my 12th house, and trine my natal Mercury. This was when I was doing a lot of writing for the website and reading tons of fantasy fiction to relax and escape reality. I was also eating badly and indulging my bad habits in an attempt to get all my writing done despite feeling exhausted.

In retrospect I can see the slow creeping disillusionment that I refused to notice at the time. I did some good writing but was mostly spiralling into a delusional state of self-deception and sabotaging my health. The fallout only hit me as this transit was fading out and Pluto started to square my natal Jupiter. More on Pluto Neptune transits here.
