Pluto Transits to natal Pluto

When Pluto transits natal Pluto your need for transformation and power influences how you use your power to evolve on a deep unconscious level. Pluto destroys and regenerates old structures and represents your need to be empowered and reborn in this area.

When Pluto transits natal Pluto it brings intensity and evolution to how you use your instinctual power and inner resources to transform yourself and evolve by overcoming your emotional complexes and compulsive behaviour patterns. This is a generational transit that affects whole groups of people at the same time but you’ll also experience it on a personal level based on your natal Pluto placement.

The age at which you experience these transits varies depending on your Pluto sign due to the planet’s eccentric orbit. Older generations experience the Pluto half-return in their 80s or 90s but those born with Pluto in Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn or Aquarius will never have this transit. These transits represent a time of massive transformation and renewal that may come from within or via events in your life that force you to change. You may need to face aspects of yourself that you’ve repressed or denied but by turning inwards and being honest with yourself you can grow and become more whole.

The conjunction can happen just after birth or in the first year of your life and may manifest as a traumatic experience that affects you directly or your parents. Every time Pluto transits his own placement after this, you’ll have an opportunity to rediscover those feelings and heal the emotional wounds that may have resulted.

The sextile and trine bring transformation in a way that’s easier to integrate into your life without causing too much disruption. You can deal with your emotional complexes more easily and may discover hidden talents and gifts that you can develop related to your Pluto placement.

You may become more interested in learning about psychology, philosophy, metaphysics, and esoteric or occult subjects. Or you could explore your intense feelings and need for change with a therapist or by expressing yourself through creativity or journalling. By doing this you can gain insight into the deepest parts of your being and become more empowered and stronger as a result.

The square can feel incredibly tense and it brings a slow transformation that’s impossible to avoid. You may try to resist change but this is always a bad idea with Pluto and you may be forced to deal with issues that you’ve been avoiding for years. You may need to let go of anything that prevents you from becoming who you need to be, so you may experience a loss or death, followed by a rebirth.

This could manifest as an illness or psychological breakdown of some kind. If this happens you may need to explore the emotional dimension to your illness to discover why you may have got sick in the first place. Your symptoms could be symbolic of the issues you need to heal deep within your soul.

You may feel very vulnerable and exposed when all this dark and raw energy reappears in your psyche and/or life. You may need to face and accept things about yourself that you really don’t want to look at so it can feel traumatising. But by facing these buried feelings you can find an empowered way of living that allows you to be more authentically real.

Not everyone will experience the opposition but if you do, it will happen when you’re very old. It may be one of the last transits you go through and could manifest as your death. Some generations will experience the trine very late and this may indicate a more harmonious experience of death at the end of your life.

My Notes:

Pluto transited sextile my natal Pluto in 1993-94, from age 23 to 24, when Pluto was in Scorpio in my 9th house. This coincided with when I was doing counselling training and working with drug addicts and alcoholics. Listening to their stories made me realise that I was stronger than I thought I was and had inner resources that not everyone could access so easily. This encouraged me to return to college to become a sound engineer and the course started as the transit came to an end.

Pluto transited square my natal Pluto in 2006-7, from age 35 to 37, when Pluto was in Sagittarius in my 11th house. This coincided with when I was working as a sound engineer for the local council while writing screenplays in my spare time. On the surface things seemed fine but deep down my mood was bleak and I felt oppressed by an invisible force that made me feel as if I was dying.

This turned out to be the first round of my dark night process, the night of sense, that began following a breakthrough a few years earlier. I kept trying to let go of everything that was ending and surrender, but then story ideas would burst into the void and demand to be written down. I didn’t understand why but wrote anyway and shortly after this transit ended, I won a screenwriting competition that bounced me out of the dark night and into a rebirth.

Pluto transited trine my natal Pluto in 2021-22, from age 50 to 52, when Pluto was in Capricorn in my 12th house. This coincided with the deepening of my dark night process into the second round, the night of spirit, which had been bubbling under for years. Again, on the surface things seemed fine and I was doing lots of writing, including the first Astro Journal. But underneath something was shifting in ways I couldn’t grasp (Pluto in 12th).

However, dealing with the COVID situation gave me a surprising insight into my death wish when I instinctively refused the vax because I knew it wasn’t safe. Researching the details reinforced my hunch and confirmed that my health and even my life would be endangered if I agreed to take it. The tiny voice in the back of my mind screaming “kill yourself!” was suddenly silent.
