Uranus Transits to Saturn

When Uranus transits natal Saturn your need for freedom and change influences the structures and limitations of your life. Uranus speeds things up and disrupts old patterns and represents your need for independence and change in this area.

When Uranus transits natal Saturn you may experience surprises and disruption to your work and social status and the structures of your life, as well as your fears and doubts about your ambitions, how you take responsibility and your attitude towards authority. This transit represents a point of necessary change in your life when old structures are ready to be renewed so you can let go of the past and anything that stops you from growing, whether inner or outer.

Uranus encourages you to grow beyond the structures you’ve got used to and you may receive a vision of new possibilities for your life. This could be a gentle nudge or a hard shove involving the sudden collapse of an old structure that forces you to change. At best, you may be more willing to take a risk or try something new that allows you to live with greater authenticity and freedom.

Hard aspects to Saturn (conjunction, square or opposition) may be more stressful and challenging but it depends on how well you’ve been working with your Saturn before the transit. If you resist making constructive changes, events beyond your control may force you to adapt. But you could also feel so frustrated and restless that you react in a way that makes things worse, and there could be conflicts with authority figures, such as your boss or parents.

This transit is an opportunity to check to see whether the structures in your life are solid but flexible enough to allow for change. You may have outgrown them and now need more room to grow and explore. This may involve confronting your fears and the ways you limit yourself due to past conditioning. Letting go of the past will create a space in which new ideas and possibilities can take root.

Any changes you make now need to be practical and realistic. They may take a little while to work through and develop but over time will provide a solid foundation for future growth and change.

Possibilities with Uranus transiting Saturn:
  • Promotion at work or new job opportunity
  • Taking on more responsibility or authority
  • Letting go of old fears
  • Inspiration to try something new
  • Developing new ambitions for the future
Watch out for:
  • Sudden collapse of the old order
  • Rash actions against authority figures
  • Walking out of your job or getting fired
  • Illness or breakdown in health
  • Burning your bridges
My notes:

Uranus transited opposite my natal Saturn in 1979-80 from age 9–10 when Uranus was in Scorpio in my 9th house. I was too young to remember any significant details for this transit but it coincided with when I was at school and started learning to play the piano. Music became an important part of the structure of my life and identity.

Uranus transited trine my natal Saturn in 1993-94 from age 22–24 when Uranus was in Capricorn in my 12th house. This coincided with when I was helping out at a recording studio making the tea while living in a damp and mouldy basement flat and trying to fight my depression and fears about the future.

Halfway through the transit I started a counselling training course and worked with people with addiction to drugs and alcohol. This opened up my perspective and revealed that I was stronger than I thought. So I decided to return to college to become a sound engineer and started on the music production course as the transit came to an end.

Uranus transited square my natal Saturn in 2001-02 from age 30–31 when Uranus was in Aquarius in my 1st house. Just before this transit I’d been unemployed and feeling frustrated but then suddenly got a job at the local council working in one of the admin departments as my savings were about to run out.

I hated the job and it was mind-numbing. But then another job at the council came up within months – amazingly for a sound engineer recording a talking newspaper. It wasn’t exactly my dream job but was a good compromise and worth doing and it gave my life some stability for the next decade.

Uranus transited sextile my natal Saturn in 2008-09 from age 37–39 when Uranus was in Pisces in my 2nd house. This was when I was writing screenplays in my spare time while working at the local council. Just before this transit I entered one of my scripts into a competition and was shortlisted when the transit first became exact. A month later I won the contest! Saturn was also transiting conjunct my Sun at the time.

The prize was to work on three drafts of the script with an editor and that process continued through the entire transit. I sent the finished script out to producers and although it got good feedback, nobody wanted to bite. By the end of the transit I requested a reduction in my hours at work to give me more time to write. Little did I know that I was about to lose my job just over a year later.

Uranus transited conjunct my natal Saturn in 2023-24 from age 52–53 when Uranus was in Taurus in my 3rd house. This is a current transit so it’s ongoing and has coincided with feeling burnt out while trying to write and rethinking my work as a writer and astrologer, prompted by little nudges from others and the need to earn more money.

As Uranus approached my Saturn last year, I was invited to speak at an astrology conference in 2024 but turned it down because I wasn’t well and was struggling with a lack of confidence. Joyce Lambert got in touch to tell me that I was being silly – not in so many words but she wanted me to know that I was, as she said, an “astrologer of eminence”.

This is an absurd statement as far as I’m concerned but I began to reconsider the reputation that I’ve built, such as it is, on this tiny website. I never intended to become an astrologer – it was just something I enjoyed writing about. But it seems that’s how the world now sees me, whether I like it or not, and despite the fact that traffic to this site is in free-fall (thanks to a Google algorithm change).

Where I go from here is open to question and the transit isn’t over yet. I’m still burnt out and concerned about what comes next while looking for another job. I’m hoping the Jupiter Uranus conjunction will help as it falls right on my Saturn…
