Uranus Transits to Neptune

When Uranus transits natal Neptune your need for freedom and change influences your ideals and desire to transcend and merge with the oneness of life. Uranus speeds things up and disrupts old patterns and represents your need for independence and change in this area.

When Uranus transits natal Neptune you may experience surprises and disruption to your ideals and spirituality, your imagination and how you perceive transcendent levels of reality, as well as your illusions and desire to escape reality. Uranus awakens your Neptunian idealism related to its sign and house placement in your chart and you could get swept up in collective trends or the latest ideology or fashion.

You may also experience profound spiritual awakenings of mystical unity and bliss or receive a vision of other worlds and realities. This may be triggered by prayer, meditation, psychedelics, shamanic practices, or the use of technology to alter your brain patterns. You may also experience creative inspiration and imagination that you can pour into creative work of all kinds.

Hard aspects to Neptune (conjunction, square or opposition) could bring shocking or disorienting changes to your view of reality. This may create confusion and escapism if your sense of self isn’t strong enough to withstand the influx of higher energies. It could also put stress on your nervous system and manifest as illness.

You may be prone to delusions and fantasies or lose yourself in drugs, alcohol and other forms of addiction. Or you could experience disillusionment when your ideals are shown to be empty or false. This may be more likely if you’re already out of touch with reality before the transit starts.

Uranus opens your consciousness to other realities and altered states and you may have many profound breakthroughs and insights. But you will need to bring these visions down to earth and integrate them into the rest of your life so that you don’t lose track of your responsibilities. Exercise and breathing can help to keep you grounded and channelling your insights into compassionate action and service can keep you in touch with society.

Possibilities with Uranus transiting Neptune:
  • Spiritual breakthrough or awakening
  • Inspiring dreams
  • Exploring new creative ideas
  • Experimenting with meditation techniques
  • Exploring other worlds
Watch out for:
  • Hijacked by an ideology
  • Dangerous delusions
  • Losing touch with reality
  • Escaping into addiction and drugs
  • Hard to diagnose illnesses
My notes:

Uranus transited conjunct my natal Neptune in 1980-81 from age 10–11 when Uranus was in Scorpio in my 9th house. I was too young to remember any specifics from this time but it coincided with the start of my musical vocation when I started to play the piano and the flute.

Uranus transited sextile my natal Neptune in 1995 from age 24–25 when Uranus was in Capricorn in my 12th house. This was when I was at college for the second time studying music production so I could fulfil my dream of becoming a sound engineer. My main memory is of the pure joy of spending time in the studios learning about recording – I was living my dream! In my spare time I was also reading every book on astrology that I could get my hands on, expanding my view of reality.

Uranus transited square my natal Neptune in 2002-03 from age 31–33 when Uranus was in Aquarius in my 1st house. This was when I was working as a sound engineer for a talking newspaper at a local council and feeling frustrated with my lack of creativity and spiritual connection.

During the first half of the transit I was depressed and drinking heavily. I was dimly aware that I needed to be more intuitive and accept the mystical side of my nature but wasn’t sure how to go about doing it. But then I suddenly started to make changes. I gave up the booze and started doing yoga and my mood began to shift.

Just as this transit came to an end, I had my first satori which transformed my perception of reality and of myself. Uranus was only a degree away from being square Neptune but also within orb of being conjunct my north node in Pisces, and transiting Neptune had just crossed my ascendant.

Uranus transited trine my natal Neptune in 2010-11 from age 39–40 when Uranus was in Pisces in my 2nd house. This was when I was working at the talking newspaper and writing screenplays and my first novel in my spare time.

Early in the transit I attended a screenwriting conference which inspired me to give up trying to become a screenwriter. I also started my first blog, Free Your Pen, and finished the first draft of Addled just before my 40th birthday. In the meantime, the rest of my life unravelled and the transit ended with me losing my job and being made redundant.

During this time I had to deal with extreme abuse from a neighbour who kept threatening to kill me and the stress contributed to my health falling apart. It was an incredibly unpleasant time thanks to other transits, including Uranus opposite natal Pluto and Pluto square natal Uranus, plus both Neptune and Chiron opposite natal Mars, and Saturn transiting the 8th house.

But I had some interesting experiences while meditating and begging God/the universe for help – the overwhelming message was:

“There is nothing to fear!”

Uranus will transit opposite my natal Neptune in 2025-26 from age 54–55 when Uranus is in Taurus in my 3rd house. This is an approaching transit and part of the mini triangle configuration – I may update this later…
