When Pluto transits natal Mars your need for transformation and power influences your energy levels and how you assert yourself. Pluto destroys and regenerates old structures and represents your need to be empowered and reborn in this area.

When Pluto transits natal Mars it brings intensity and evolution to your desires and goals and how you assert yourself and use your physical energy. This transit puts you in touch with your will and aggressive energies so how it affects you depends on what you’re normally like and how ambitious you are.
You may want to assert yourself towards achieving your desires and goals and you could feel more energetic and determined to succeed. If you’ve been holding yourself back or haven’t been true to yourself, then events may force you to take a stand. But if you’re normally quite aggressive and focused on achieving what you want then something may force you to stop and think about what you’re doing.
You could become unsure of what you want to do, or your goals may suddenly fail, or you lose energy and your feelings change. You may need to let go of old desires and learn to wait in a liminal space for new goals and desires to appear. This may feel frustrating and could bring up feelings of anger and rage that have been repressed.
Hard aspects to Mars (conjunction, square or opposition) may be more challenging and you could react by trying to force things to go your way. You could become ruthless and controlling and anger could easily spiral into violence and extreme rage. This may be more likely if you feel blocked from taking action and you may need to find a constructive outlet for these feelings so they don’t get out of control.
It’s especially important not to bottle up feelings of anger because it can create health problems and accidents. Repressed rage can manifest as self-destructive behaviour but it can also come back at you from outside in the form of violence in others. This may be more likely during the opposition but you can never be sure with Pluto.
You may want to explore the roots of your anger and you may discover that it goes back to childhood fears of abandonment and powerlessness. By working with this energy you can transmute it into something creative or useful, such as getting rid of things you no longer need or freeing yourself from patterns that are holding you back.
You could also channel it into achieving something that requires a lot of hard work and focused energy. It’s especially useful for body building and sports or doing things that allow you to channel your energy productively. By the end of the transit you can become more empowered and self-assertive in a balanced way that doesn’t clobber other people with your drives and willpower.

My Notes:
Pluto transited square my natal Mars in 1993-95, from age 23 to 25, when Pluto was in Scorpio in my 9th house. This coincided with a period of confusion about my goals when I was doing counselling training and working with people who had addiction problems. The experience helped me to see that I was stronger and more capable than I thought and it gave me the confidence to return to college to become a sound engineer – my long-standing dream.
While at college, close to the end of the transit, I discovered that one of the other trainees on the counselling course had been murdered. He was bludgeoned to death by two men who were later acquitted – no idea why it happened but he was a lovely bloke and a recovering alcoholic trying to help others. Perhaps Pluto was also active in his life at the time.
Pluto transited trine my natal Mars in 2007, from age 36 to 37, when Pluto was in Sagittarius in my 11th house. This coincided with when I was running a writing group for scriptwriters and working on lots of screenplays in my spare time while working full-time as a sound engineer. This transit gave me an energy boost and the confidence to enter a screenwriting competition with one of my scripts. Just after the transit ended, I won the competition when Pluto was transiting square my natal Mercury.
Interesting note: Pluto is currently trine my progressed Mars which is giving me extra energy and power to make big changes in my life. It’s helping me to find transformative solutions to problems and let go of old ways of doing things that have been holding me back for years.
