The Story Behind Aquarius

Aquarius is all about ideals, such as humanitarianism and equality, as well as abstract knowledge and science. Aquarians are democratic, truth-loving idealists. They are future oriented, inventive visionaries, and can be unique to the point of eccentricity. Because their idealism runs so deep, they can have trouble with the nastier, stickier sides of human nature. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Uranus.

Aquarius Myths

The ultimate Aquarian figure from myth is Prometheus, a Titan. Zeus was jealous of humans so prevented them from having the gift of fire (symbol for the creative spirit). If humans had fire, they would be more like gods, and Zeus wasn’t having any of that. Prometheus could see the potential of humanity, so stole the fire and gave it to humans. Zeus was enraged and chained Prometheus to a rock in the Caucasus Mountains. Every day an eagle came and ate Prometheus’ liver, and every night it grew back, until Hercules turned up to set him free.

Another Aquarian figure is Pandora. She was made by Hephaestus as a gift to mankind, given as wife to Epimetheus, another Titan and brother of Prometheus. She came bearing a box containing all the worst things humanity endures – sickness, old age, fear, violence, madness and death, which once unleashed could not be returned to the box. The last thing out of the box was hope.
