September Astrology 2026

September begins in Virgo season when we bring order to chaos by balancing the mind and body to create health within the cycles of nature. This is a time to think things through and get organised so we can put everything in its proper place and sort out the practical details of what needs to be done in our lives. More on the meaning of Virgo here: Virgo Myths

The month begins with the Sun conjunct Mercury in Virgo, Venus in Libra, and Mars in Cancer. Venus is in her retrograde shadow and enters Scorpio in the second week, the same day that Mercury enters Libra. Saturn, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron are all retrograde and Uranus joins them in the second week. Chiron returns to Aries in the third week, just before the Sun enters Libra at the equinox. Mars enters Leo near the end of the month, shortly followed by Mercury entering Scorpio.

The Mars Saturn square continues to reality check your goals and actions at the start of the month and goes exact on the first day. Any unrealistic dreams or ideals will fall away and you can get on with consolidating your ambitions and plans. This combination of energies is often seen in a negative light and it can feel oppressive because it slows things down and forces you to get real. But you can achieve a lot if you’re willing to put in the effort and take responsibility for your actions.

On 11th September the New Moon in Virgo is sextile Mars and highlights your need for practical routines. You can channel this energy into getting organised and taking care of the details. However, the Mercury Neptune opposition could undermine your ability to think clearly and you may want to daydream or drift into escapism. But you can also receive inspiration for visionary creative or spiritual work thanks to the Kite with Uranus and Pluto.

New Moon in Virgo September 2026

The passionate intensity of Venus in Scorpio is reinforced by her square to Pluto and opposition to Chiron. This energy could create power struggles or compulsive behaviour that causes difficulties in relationships or with your finances. Old wounds could be reactivated, but you can also deepen your understanding and find healing by letting go of the past.

The Venus Pluto square fades in from 4th September and goes exact on 15th but then hangs around through October because Venus goes retrograde on 3rd October. You can read more about this intense period of time in the Venus retrograde post here.

A few days after the lunation the Mercury Saturn opposition begins to fade in and goes exact on 18th September, just as the Mercury Neptune opposition fades out. This transit helps to clarify your thinking and communication and is good for planning and sorting out any messes that have arisen due to earlier mix-ups. Some of your ideas may prove to be unrealistic and you may need to let go of failed projects or plans. This could feel depressing but the point is to find what works by clearing your mind of extraneous nonsense.

The Sun enters Libra at the equinox on 23rd September while in a Kite opposite Neptune, sextile Mars, and trine Uranus and Pluto. This shifts your focus to finding balance and creating harmony and fairness in relationships. Neptune inspires and uplifts but could also mislead and confuse and your energy levels could be low. It’s a good time for creative and spiritual work.

However, the Mars Pluto opposition begins to fade in from 20th September creating a rising tension through to the end of the month. It goes exact on 3rd October, the same day that Venus goes retrograde, and it could intensify aggressive energies and anger and trigger power struggles in relationships. This energy is incredibly volatile and you may need to watch for manipulative or controlling behaviour in yourself or others. But you can also channel it into empowering yourself and reforming anything that needs fixing.

Full Moon in Aries September 2026

On 26th September the Full Moon in Aries is conjunct Neptune, trine Mars, and sextile Uranus and Pluto in a Kite with the Sun opposite Neptune, trine Uranus and Pluto, and sextile Mars. This lunation reinforces the Neptunian energies and highlights your need for independent action but you may feel confused about what you want or unsure how to achieve it. As the Moon moves towards Saturn in the following hours clarity may return, allowing you to ground your vision and make your dreams real.

The obsessive energy of the Mars Pluto opposition and T-square with Chiron continues to build and a few hours after the lunation the Mercury Pluto square starts to fade in. With Mercury also opposite Chiron, this turns the T-square into a Grand Cross with Mars and Pluto which lasts into October.

This intensifies your thinking and communication and could trigger obsessive thoughts, disturbing news, and hurtful arguments. But you can also use this energy to deepen your mind and purge your thinking of anything that no longer works. This energy is reinforced when Mercury enters Scorpio on 30th September.

Meanwhile, the Grand Cross is intensified further when Mars enters Leo on 28th September while opposite Pluto and square Mercury and Chiron. This increases your energy and drive for success and recognition and you can channel it into achieving your goals and ambitions. But be careful of pushing too hard as you could become arrogant or receive aggressive resistance from others and/or events.

Grand Cross at the end of September 2026

It’s not a great end to the month and the tension continues all through October as Venus goes retrograde in Scorpio, followed by Mercury also going retrograde in Scorpio. Lean into the support provided from the many trines and sextiles that plug into the Grand Cross and the Sun Saturn opposition which fades in from 27th September. This aspect goes exact on 4th October and provides grounding and success for realistic projects and a reality check for anything past its usefulness.
