Uranus takes about 84 years to transit the whole zodiac and he’s been disrupting things in Taurus since 2018. Uranus will transit Gemini from 2025 to 2033, spending about 7 years there in total, with a few dips in and out at either end. The pace of change will increase but it probably won’t play out as we’re expecting. Here are the dates for your diary:

• Enters Gemini on 8 July 2025
• Retrogrades into Taurus on 8 November 2025
• Re-enters Gemini to stay from 26 April 2026
• Dips into Cancer on 3 August 2032
• Final visit to Gemini from 12 December 2032
• Enters Cancer to stay on 22 May 2033

Uranus represents the principle of revolution, freedom and change, and the need for originality and independence from tradition. It’s associated with sudden and unexpected breakdowns and/or breakthroughs, flashes of insight, awakenings and rebellions. Its electrifying energy speeds things up and creates excitement and restlessness, plugging us into the Universal Mind and stimulating innovation and brilliance.

As Uranus transits the signs he disrupts and transforms in unexpected and unpredictable ways. Taurus has been getting this treatment since 2018, triggering change in our values, economy, agriculture and how we treat the earth. When Uranus enters mutable Gemini he’ll be happier than in earthy, fixed Taurus and won’t waste any time getting up to full speed. We can expect rapid change and disruption to the way we think and communicate, and how we get around, conduct trade and transport goods. Since Gemini is a dual sign, Uranus will drive the opposites to polarised positions and pour fuel on the archetype of the warring brothers, as in Cain and Abel. Historically, when Uranus enters Gemini we see a lot of fighting and skirmishes, revolts and revolutions against established powers, or fights between neighbours or within territories, such as civil wars. There are also many technological innovations and breakthroughs in science, as well as changes to trade and travel infrastructure.

To get a feel for how this works, let’s explore some of the events from previous transits of Uranus in Gemini, some of which also lined up with either Pluto in Aquarius or Neptune in Aries…

Going back to 405 – 398 BCE Uranus was in Gemini when Athens was defeated by Sparta in 404 BCE in the war that erupted during the previous Neptune in Aries transit. By 402 BCE democracy had been re-established. In the following years Socrates began teaching philosophy by engaging people in dialogue. But in 399 BCE, he was put on trial and executed for corrupting the minds of the youth – in other words, for making them think.

Jumping ahead, Uranus was in Gemini in 1439 – 1446 when Nicholas of Cusa published On Learned Ignorance about the limits of knowledge of God and science. Like Socrates, he was wise enough to recognise that he knew nothing, but also proposed the possibility of multiple worlds and aliens. Meanwhile, Johanne Gutenberg was working on his printing press in 1440, the start of the printing revolution. The Gutenberg Bible was produced after this period in 1455.

In 1606 – 1613 Uranus was in Gemini as the Scientific Revolution began with an explosion of discoveries and innovations. The telescope was invented by spectacle maker Hans Lipperhey in 1608, and again by Galileo Galilei in 1609. Kepler published Astronomia Nova detailing the first two laws of planetary motion in 1609, and in 1610 Galileo announced his discoveries in Sidereus Nuncius. The same year, Thomas Harriot was the first to observe sunspots using a telescope.

Meanwhile, the printing revolution was gathering pace and the first newspaper was published just before this in Germany in 1605. It was more of a pamphlet, but the craze quickly spread around Europe, and in 1609 the first newspaper to be printed on a regular basis was published in Germany. In Britain, John Speed was drawing maps and his Historie of Great Britaine was published in 1611, including many town plans. And the King James Bible was published the same year.

Uranus was in Gemini in 1690 – 1697 in a slight overlap with Neptune in Aries at the end, when the scientific revolution continued under the influence of Isaac Newton. His Principia was published just before this transit in 1687 and established the laws of mechanics and gravitation. In 1690 Newton sent some of his theological arguments to John Locke, and in 1692-93 had a breakdown that may have been caused by poisoning from his earlier alchemical experiments.

In 1690, Huygens published his wave theory of light in Treatise on Light, explaining reflection and refraction, and in 1691 Rolle proved his theorem in differential calculus.  John Locke, the father of liberalism, published several works during this period, including Two Treatises on Government and Concerning Human Understanding in 1690, and Some Thoughts Concerning Education in 1693.

In 1774 – 1781 Uranus was in Gemini along with Pluto in Aquarius. This period marked the transition between the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution, and it also featured lots of fighting (as per usual). The American Revolution began in 1775, although it actually started the year before in a spat over tea. America declared independence from Britain in 1776 but the fighting continued until 1783.

Meanwhile there was science to be done and books to write. Pierre Simon Laplace, the French Newton, did extensive work on differential equations, probability and statistics, and collaborated with Lavoisier who identified the composition of air. Girard, a French mathematician and prodigy, invented the first water turbine at the age of 10. James Watt got his steam engine working, Gervinus invented the circular saw, and William Herschel discovered Uranus.

• Dialogue Concerning Natural Religion by David Hume, debating the existence of God
• Education of the Human Race by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, arguing for religious tolerance
• Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason

Uranus was in Gemini in 1858 – 1865 along with Neptune in Aries when the Industrial Revolution was really picking up speed and multiple civil wars were erupting around the world. The British Raj rulership of India began in 1858 and lasted until 1947 during the following transit. And as we saw last time, the American Civil War ran from 1861-65, despite Abraham Lincoln’s speech in 1858 where he said:

“A house divided against itself, cannot stand…”

Lots of great novels were written during this period, including Dickens, Dumas, Flaubert, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy. Newspapers were also spreading fast, and in 1860, the Pony Express started delivering mail in the US, although it didn’t last long. It was superseded by the faster telegraph which started back in the 1830s when Uranus was in Aquarius. The first transcontinental telegraph started in 1861, and an attempt to lay a transatlantic telegraph cable failed in 1858. It finally succeeded in 1866 but Uranus was in Cancer by then – obvious really, the cable was under the sea.

The telegraph received a shock in 1859 when the Carrington Event, a massive solar flare, melted wires and knocked out communications. The coronal mass ejection was one of the largest in history and it triggered a geomagnetic storm on earth, with auroras seen around the world.

Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species in 1859, and the following year there was a debate at Oxford about evolution between various scientists and philosophers, including Wilberforce and Huxley, that got quite heated. In 1865, Gregor Mendel and his peas established the laws of genetic inheritance by doing hybridisation experiments. And the same year, James Clerk Maxwell, the founder of modern electrical engineering, published A Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field. He also presented the first colour photograph at a lecture in 1861.

The first comet to be photographed, Comet Donati, happened in 1858 on the day Uranus entered Gemini. The first sound recording was made in 1860 of the French folk song Au clair de la lune using a phonautograph. And in 1863, the first underground railway opened in London. Other inventions and innovations of this time include:

• first aerial photography
• first rechargeable battery
• first commercial oil well
• internal combustion engine
• an early telephone made by Reis

Finally, Uranus was in Gemini in 1941 – 1949 which was a pivotal decade of the 20th century. World War II had already started in 1939 and it lasted until 1945, giving way to the Cold War, a standoff between the two superpowers of the US and the Soviet Union. This period also saw an enormous surge of inventions and breakthroughs in technology, especially in computing.

Initially, the US stayed on the sidelines of WW2 and as Uranus entered Gemini in August 1941, Roosevelt and Churchill met to agree the Atlantic Charter outlining their mutual post-war aims. The US entered the war in December 1941 following the attack on Pearl Harbour. However, Uranus had returned to Taurus by then and didn’t re-enter Gemini until May 1942 ready for the Battle of Midway in June.

The war led to many innovations and technological breakthroughs, such as the atomic research of the Manhattan Project that achieved the first nuclear chain reaction. Two atom bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Modern cryptography took off with the Colossus in 1943, the first programmable electronic computer used to decipher the German Lorenz machine. The first general purpose digital computer that was Turing-complete was the ENIAC, built in the US in 1945.

This period also marked the start of the Space Age and the first man-made object to reach the edge of space was the V-2 rocket in 1944. Project Diana bounced radar off the moon in 1946 to measure its exact distance from earth. And Albert was the first monkey to be launched into space in 1948. Meanwhile, the Roswell incident happened in 1947 when something crashed, possibly a UFO. 🛸

Other inventions and innovations of this time include:

• the transistor
• supersonic flight
• hydraulic fracturing
• aqua-lungs
• holography
• microwave ovens
• mobile telephone service
• first commercial magnetic tape recorder
• LP and 45 vinyl records

The desire for freedom also received a boost and in 1942 Gandhi demanded Indian independence from Britain; in 1945 the Nuremberg Trials began; and in 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was made. Meanwhile, Alfred Hofmann took a dose of LSD to explore his consciousness in 1943, and in 1944 the Education Actin Britain ensured that everybody had the right to an education, as well as school meals and milk.

In 1942, Anne Frank started writing her diary about life in hiding from the Nazis, but died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. More positively, the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in the Qumran caves in 1947, opening up research on the Gnostic gospels. Key books published at this time include:

Uranus in Gemini 2025 – 2033

It’s not difficult to imagine what might happen when Uranus enters Gemini because most of it is already happening. We can expect a continuation of the rapid technological developments we’ve seen since the 1940s and the disruption they create. There could be breakthroughs in almost any area but especially communications, phones, computing, neural networks, AI and algorithms, as well as travel and transport, including aerospace and space tech.

This transit also contributes to the general trend of decentralisation underpinned by the Jupiter Saturn cycle shift into air signs. Any attempt to centralise or double down on globalism will disintegrate on contact with reality. The urbanisation trend may continue but the focus will change to localised networks of city states and trading partners. There’ll be a lot of instability and extreme uncertainty. Nothing will stay fixed for long and the speed of social change will accelerate, driven by our use of technology.

Advances in virtual and augmented reality could transform gaming and education. But it could also overrun the world with deep fakes and computer viruses leaving our networks vulnerable to hacking and theft. Quantum computing could revolutionise cryptography and Big Data, not to mention surveillance, digital IDs and the ever-expanding panopticon. The people may fight back with open-source technology and peer-to-peer networks.

Towns and cities could be redesigned to accommodate smart tech and surveillance, as well as electric cars and charging points. There are already plans to phase out gas boilers and wood-burning stoves and to get every home hooked up to a smart meter. Urban renewal could transform how we move around our local environments, with new forms of public transport, self-driving cars, and drones delivering goods.

Most of these changes probably won’t work out as planned and there could be sudden unexpected failures and reversals. We’re likely to experience shortages of the resources needed to make all this tech, especially the lithium batteries that have a limited lifespan. Perhaps breakthroughs will improve the functioning of batteries or change how they’re made, and enable us to stop relying on slave labour.

The alternative is to throw enormous amounts of money at developing space travel and the technology to mine asteroids. Low-earth orbit is already filling up with thousands of satellites and there’s talk of putting a 5G network on the moon to service an outpost or staging for a jump to Mars. UFOs are now being taken seriously by the media after years of ridicule – which makes me deeply suspicious – they’re prepping for something, but who knows what?

Along with Pluto in Aquarius, Uranus in Gemini could bring a revolution in power generation – not just wind or solar power, but something new that doesn’t rely on oil technology. Perhaps we’ll see the beginnings of free energy and decentralised networks of energy distribution. A revolution in this area may become necessary due to shocks caused by grid failures and extreme weather.

Another solar eruption like the Carrington Event of 1859 is possible and it would have a devastating effect on our power grids – goodbye digital economy, goodbye surveillance, goodbye just-in-time delivery networks – goodbye civilisation as we know it! ⚡️😳

This could happen at any time but it’ll become more likely as we reach the peak of the current solar cycle, due around the middle of the decade – just as Uranus enters Gemini. However, we wouldn’t need a massive solar flare to cause serious disruption. Ever since 1859 the magnetic field of the earth has been slowly losing power and this has accelerated in recent years. That means even a bog standard CME could rip through the field and turn our technological lives upside down – unless Uranus inspires us to create an artificial shield.

If we manage to keep the power on – and that’s a big if – the new craze for online learning could spread, along with the problems it causes. We may see a radical reform of education and the school system, as well as language, writing and freedom of speech. There could be shocks and disruption to the media and news networks and the ways we share information through the internet and social media. The art of bullshit and distraction will reach new heights (i.e. lows), with truth and lies becoming even more polarised and radicalised.

This doesn’t bode well for the prospects of war. Since its founding, America has gone to war every time Uranus was in Gemini, and the Civil War coincided with Neptune in Aries too. A new civil war in the US will become more likely around the middle of the decade when both Uranus and Neptune change signs. But another world war is also possible – unless we come to our senses.

At best, Uranus in Gemini indicates the potential for a massive awakening and shift in how we use our minds. We could see a radical overhaul of our thinking patterns and our understanding of consciousness. Uranus may help us to break out of the matrix and get back in touch with the power of our real minds, not minds augmented by technology. We could learn more about how thoughts change reality through the feeding power of attention, and this could transform how we use technology.

There could be breakthroughs and new thinking in science, a revolution in mathematics and a long-overdue reform of computer modelling and its implications. Along with Pluto in Aquarius, this transit could help to reveal the Emperor’s New Clothes of technology and encourage us to take a step back and unplug. We may prefer to create more human networks of interaction, rather than networks of machines.

In 2032, Uranus will conjunct Saturn in Gemini and everything we’ve done between now and then will be tested to see if it works. New structures and ideas put in place will either succeed and become the new normal, or fail and collapse. It’s going to be a wild ride!
