When Neptune transits the 10th house your need for transcendence and imagination influences your career, vocation and status in the world. Neptune inspires new dreams and dissolves old structures and represents your need to spiritualise and refine this area of your life.

When Neptune transits the 10th house you may experience inspiration and confusion with your career or vocation, status, reputation, and public life, and in your relationship to employers and authority figures. Remember your vocation may not be the same as your job so either or both could be affected, and what happens depends on your age and situation.
You may feel disillusioned with your career or work and want to find your ideal role in life. But you may feel confused about what to do or unsure of your purpose. You could be deluded about what you’re capable of or lost in fantasies of your future life. You could be inspired to give up your job to chase your vision but this could lead to disappointment if your dreams are impractical or unrealistic.
But if you’ve prepared well, you could take a leap of faith into a new role that’s perfect for you. You may want to work in a Neptunian profession, such as music, film, art, photography, theatre, creative writing, fashion, or anything associated with water or the ocean, as well as alcohol and pharmacology. Or you could be inspired by a spiritual vocation to work as a healer, therapist, social worker, or in healthcare.
You may need to explore your illusions and self-deception in relation to your work which could manifest in a variety of ways. You may lose your job or have to make sacrifices, perhaps working hard for little reward. Or you could be scapegoated by your colleagues and cancelled or unfairly dismissed. You may want to retire but can’t because you need the money, or you could be forced to retire early due to illness or redundancies.
If you’ve been closely identified with your work, losing your job can be a painful process. You’ll need to grieve for what you’ve lost and let go of your old identity and status in the eyes of others. But it also provides an opportunity to examine your illusions and be more honest with yourself so you can find the right path for you.
It’s possible that your reputation could improve during this time and you could be idealised by others, perhaps because you’ve done something that captures their imagination or inspired them in some way. You could become famous for doing something Neptunian which may be exactly what you want. But it could also mean making sacrifices, such as a loss of privacy.
This transit may also manifest through one of your parents who could be having Neptunian experiences, such as spiritual or creative inspiration, or emotional or psychological problems. They may need extra support and you may need to be careful of your boundaries so you don’t become overwhelmed. It’s also possible that one of them could die so you may need to let them go and grieve their loss.

My notes:
Neptune transited my 10th house from 1973 to 1981, from age 2 to 11, when I was mostly too young to remember specific events, although there are a few. It coincided with when I started playing music – my first vocation – as well as my mini visionary phase which foreshadowed my possible true vocation as a mystic.
My musical vocation started when I was about 5 and joined the recorder group at school where I learned to play the descant, treble and sopranino recorders. Later I gave the violin a try but it didn’t work for me (or the neighbours!) so I gave that up and started playing the piano at about age 9, and then the flute at age 11.
I also joined a medieval music group that specialised in using mostly period instruments and had great fun playing my recorders and the harpsichord, plus something called a kortholt that made a fantastic sound. This period coincided with when Uranus was transiting my 9th house and shaping my view of reality.
Neptune had his say when I began to see visions of fractals dancing in the air around me as I lay awake at night. I didn’t know they were fractals at the time and only discovered what they were later when I saw a poster of the Mandelbrot set in a shop.
This was the start of my visionary experiences, although my mum tells a story about me that probably happened earlier. One day she found me kneeling at the foot of the stairs in prayer because the Virgin Mary had appeared in a vision at the top of the stairs outside the loo! I was playing at being St Bernadette of Lourdes.
Apparently, I had been watching a TV programme about the saint and was quite taken with the idea of seeing visions. I don’t remember the event and don’t believe the Virgin Mary actually showed up at my house! I was playing but seriously, almost solemnly – despite both my parents being fervent atheists. Perhaps this was the moment my future vocation as a mystic began to take shape…

I have Sun in Pisces at the tail end of my natal 10th house. When Neptune transited over my Sun in 2011, my dad passed away suddenly. That was a Neptunian experience for sure. Chiron was transiting over my Sun also at that time.
When Neptune transited over my Pisces Moon in 2020-2021, I wondered if my mom would pass, but that did not happen.
