This year the eclipse cycle moves from the Pisces/Virgo axis to the Aquarius/Leo axis when the north node enters Aquarius on 27th July 2026 and stays until 26th March 2028. We’ve already had one eclipse in Aquarius – the solar eclipse on 17th February 2026 – and they’ll be a total solar eclipse in Leo on 12th August 2026, with more to come next year.

Generally speaking, the north node tends to increase and amplify the energy of the sign it occupies, while the south node decreases and diminishes the opposite sign. So as the north node shifts into Aquarius our focus turns away from inner contemplation, imagination and empathy (Pisces) towards rationality, objectivity and humanitarian ideals.
How this affects you will depend on the strength of Aquarius and Leo in your chart. You may find that the house axis that the nodes are transiting through is more relevant to your experience than the signs on a personal level.
When the north node enters Aquarius, it increases the importance of thinking rationally and approaching life with objectivity and a belief in equality and fairness. You may want to spend more time with friends or join a group or cause working to reform society and make the world a better place for everyone.
But the shadow side of Aquarius could also be amplified. There may be an increase in the potential for excessive detachment, idealism and a lack of human feeling which could cause problems in relationships and society. You may get caught up in clashes between in-groups and out-groups arguing over politics or the latest ideology. Or feel like an outsider because you struggle to fit into a group.
With the south node in Leo there’s a decrease in the emphasis on individual self-expression and egotism and the need for recognition and applause. You may struggle to make your voice heard or express yourself the way you would like, and could feel inhibited or blocked in your creativity or ability to have fun and find joy in life.
This sounds miserable (!) but a decrease in narcissism and bombastic pride – the shadow side of Leo – could be a good thing. Fewer selfies, less talking about yourself on social media, less bossiness and pompous self-righteousness and entitlement, less Me, Me Me!!!
You may need to let go of attention-seeking behaviour and the need for drama and self-aggrandisement. Stop trying so hard to be the centre of attention and learn to accept yourself as you are without the need for approval from others. This will allow you to develop greater humility and openness to life which then allows you to reconnect with the natural playfulness and joy of your inner child.

To work with these energies in a constructive way, look for patterns across the Aquarius/Leo axis of your chart to see where you need to let go of your pride and need for drama. By choosing to be less egotistical you can learn how to be less emotionally reactive and become more detached. When you stop taking things personally it allows you to see what’s going on more clearly. It gives you the clarity to think rationally and find alternative perspectives that may be liberating.
However, too much detachment can lead to emotional coldness and an impersonal approach that alienates others. So it’s important to stay in touch with the positive gifts of Leo for warmth and generosity and the desire to share your joy with others. The ideal is to find a balance between the objectivity and rationality of Aquarius and the open-hearted joy of Leo.
These two energies/principles aren’t mutually exclusive. The individual can’t exist without the group (or society) but the group can’t exist without the individual either. You can remain true to yourself when you join a group. You don’t have to conform or agree with everything they say or do. You can shine your light and share your passions in a way that includes others and contributes something unique that benefits everyone.
The challenge is to do this without it becoming all about you. You need to allow space for others to also shine and contribute their perspectives and that doesn’t work if everybody is all shouting at once and saying “Look at ME!!!!”
By surrendering the need to be the centre of attention you can allow life to act through you. This doesn’t mean hiding your light or diminishing yourself – you just allow your light (soul gifts) to be there without forcing it. Just be who you are and allow things to come to you. You don’t need applause for existing.
You could even discover your own unique voice or gifts because you can’t fit in with a group. The challenge then is to find a way to reconnect with others without losing touch with yourself. You could find your tribe and make new friends to create communities that are genuinely inclusive and based on mutual respect and equality.
You could also find an ideal, a future vision of society or humanity, something larger than yourself that you can believe in and work towards. This may involve surrendering your ego or personal attachments in some way. But this ideal must align with your personal vision as an individual so you don’t undermine yourself in the long run.
Nodal Lessons for the North Node in Aquarius
- Overcome coldness and aloofness by embracing warmth and a heart-centred approach
- Embrace friendship centred in mutual respect of individual differences
- Shine your light so that it includes others and illuminates them rather than drawing all the attention to you
- Centre in your own self so that you can reach out and connect with others without losing yourself
- Recognise the interconnected nature of society and how your identity depends on your relationships with others
- Embrace humanitarian ideals and goals that are focused on a personal level of engagement
- Ensure social reforms are inspired by and grounded in respect for the individual
Transits to the Nodes
Uranus is currently square the nodal axis. The exact square happened on 12th June 2026 but it remains in orb until 8th November 2026. This transit represents a crossroads that encourages you to choose whether to go forwards or backwards – to focus on the north or the south node. What you choose depends on what you need for your soul growth at this time – and remember the ideal is to find a balance between both nodes.
Uranus square the nodes could trigger karmic events and surprises that allow (or force) you to change direction. Once the nodes shift into Aquarius and Leo, these events may centre around your friendships or groups, or could involve the use of technology in some way. More on Uranus square the nodes here.

Jupiter conjuncts the south node from October 2026 until June 2027 and forms three exact aspects. The first exact conjunction is on 12th November 2026 at 25° Leo and the final two aspects will be in February and April next year. This transit encourages you to let go of old beliefs so you can embrace a more positive and optimistic future. Releasing past karma will open up space for new possibilities to grow in the house where this transit happens in your chart.
Since this conjunction happens in Leo you may need to let go of past identities or passions that have become too self-indulgent, such as bad habits, belief systems, or egotistical ideas about who you are. You may need to learn to embody the more noble side of Leo, such as generosity, warmth, and self-acceptance. More on this transit later.
Next year Pluto conjuncts the north node from May 2027 to March 2028. The exact aspect happens on 16th November 2027 at 4° Aquarius while Pluto is still locked into the mini triangle configuration with Uranus and Neptune, and out of bounds. This transit will intensify Aquarian themes and could magnify the shadow side of both Aquarius and Pluto, pushing things to extremes in ways that are unhelpful – to say the least.
If this transit contacts your chart, you could use the extra energy to transform yourself on a deep soul level and reform your life in the house where the conjunction falls. It represents the end of an old order and the start of something new and could indicate a period of profound evolutionary change that you can either cooperate with or be forced into if you resist. More on this transit later – in the meantime, read up on Pluto in Aquarius here.
At the same time as Pluto conjuncts the north node, Chiron squares the nodes from June 2027 to April 2028. The exact aspect doesn’t happen until 6th March 2028 when Chiron is at 1° Taurus and the nodes are about to shift signs. This represents another crossroads that could involve making choices that allow you to heal and let go of the past. It could be incredibly challenging and painful, especially because Saturn will also conjunct Chiron and square the nodes around the same time.
The Saturn square to the nodes doesn’t become exact until after the nodes have entered Capricorn/Cancer. But this entire period – late 2027 and into 2028 – could be difficult on multiple levels due to the Saturn Pluto square that also builds during that time, as well as the Chiron Pluto square that’s already rumbling in the background now.

With the north node in Aquarius we could see an increase in issues associated with science, technology and AI, technocratic control and digital ID, social networks, activism and identity politics, utilitarianism and collectivism, changes to currencies and the rules governing trade and the use of data.
On the positive side there could be an increase in social justice and humanitarian ideals and principles, as well as greater awareness of neurodiversity and the difficulty of being different. There may be challenges over diversity and inclusion and questions about who gets included and who is left out. But this could easily tip into ideology and groupthink, as we’re already seeing.
The Aquarian emphasis on rationality, objectivity and scientific enquiry is useful and it has given us lots of technological toys to play with. But the shadow tendency towards an impersonal approach and lack of human feeling is made worse by the use of technology, creating a destructive feedback loop.
There could be more rules implemented through technology that undermine the rights of individuals, such as control of speech and communication. The use of AI will continue to grow, even if AI itself continues to degrade in performance and utility. The conflict between the creativity of humanity vs that of machines and technology that imitates humanity will become even more stark as more and more people are affected by the consequences of its use.
All these issues could become very challenging and difficult to avoid. The level of control will vary depending on which country you’re in and the technocratic control won’t necessarily work as advertised. Human creativity and ingenuity will always find a way to subvert and overcome setbacks.
There’s also the economic implications of the north node entering Aquarius to consider, but since this post is already too long, we’ll look at that next time…
