Jupiter Transits to Neptune

Jupiter NeptuneWhen Jupiter transits natal Neptune the desire for growth and expansion influences your ideals and desire to merge with the oneness of life. Jupiter represents the aspiration to grow into an expanded future, make new plans and open your consciousness to higher ideals.

When Jupiter transits Neptune it heightens your psychic sensitivity and brings a stronger spiritual yearning. You’ll have a greater sense of the otherworldly and your aspirations will become more idealistic and spiritualised. If you’re already on the spiritual path these tendencies will be enhanced, if not, then you may find yourself drawn to spirituality and religion for the first time.

Jupiter expands whatever it touches so when it teams up with Neptune it brings about subtle changes in your level of consciousness and opens up your mind. Your imagination will be increased, but so too will any escapist tendencies. You could become spaced out or lose touch with reality. These transits can improve and broaden your ideals and enhance artistic expression, but they can also leave you out on a limb in an unreal world, especially if you use drugs to shift your consciousness or trigger inspiration.

Neptune shows where we’re fooled by delusions, fantasy and illusion, so the hard transits from Jupiter (conjunction, square, and opposition) can increase these problems. You may go chasing off after a hopeless ideal, such as an inappropriate relationship or an impossible dream, only to come crashing back to earth when the transit is over. There may be nothing you can do about this except deal with it and learn from it. However if you know the transit is happening you can be forewarned that you might be prone to self-deception and this might help you to keep your feet on the ground. Then again, you might need to drift off into a dream world every once in a while! Just be careful not to convince yourself that everything is fine and perfect, when it really isn’t.

The soft transits (sextile and trine) expand your goals and make them more idealistic than usual. You’ll be able to appreciate all the good aspects of your life and not take them for granted, and you may want to give back some of that good fortune in service to others. You may feel a greater sense of religious, spiritual or philosophical connection with the people you want to help, and may spend more time studying spiritual matters or expanding your spiritual practice. Spiritual insight may come more easily now and you may become involved with a group dedicated to mystical or spiritual understanding.

Possibilities with Jupiter transiting Neptune:
  • Heightened compassion
  • Helping others less fortunate than you
  • Increased interest in spiritual or religious subjects
  • Finding a spiritual teacher or guru
  • Increased spiritual insight
Watch out for:
  • Difficulty sorting the real from the ideal
  • Escapism
  • Excessive drinking or drug taking
  • Following false messiahs or gurus
  • Extreme optimism leading to foolish risk-taking

These transits work to undermine your ego and make you more selfless, but they can also make you believe you can get away with doing anything you like. To get the best out of this time it’s a good idea to avoid any kind of selfish activity and don’t gamble with what you can’t afford to lose. It’s a test of your grounding in reality and how well you can turn your ideals into something solid in the real world. By expanding your idealism, Jupiter can bring to light whether your beliefs are grounded in the real world or whether they’re impractical dreams.
